Rising Stars: Meet Brian Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Lynch.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I found tattooing in my early teens. I was fascinated by it! After begging my Mom to give consent, I got my first one at 15 in a basement in Queens, NY from a biker in my neighborhood named Joe “the butcher”. With that experience, I completely fell in love with its power and magic.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Tattooing is very difficult trade to get into. There are people trying to protect it and others trying to own it. Plus it’s very difficult and time-consuming to teach someone the right way. Finding a good teacher who is willing to teach you is rare. For me, after “getting in”, it still took years to develop my craft and style. Or to at least be competent in putting in a tattoo correctly. And after 15 years, I’m still learning. Tattooing has given me everything and has taught me so much about myself and others. It really is pure magic.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
There are many incredible forms off tattooing. I specialize in Traditional. Which is bold lines, heavy black shading, and solid, bright color, or black and grey. It’s folk art. Lots of imagery is passed down from one generation to the next bringing the images to life. While working with my clients, I try to give them the best experience possible. I want to know who they are and how they made it to my chair. When people have a good experience, the tattoo becomes more powerful. There’s real magic, and it really works!!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Like Devita said, “Any imperfections will add to its beauty.” I try my best everyday and try to have fun doing it. I love tattooing and feel like it’s my purpose on this Earth. I couldn’t imagine my life without it, and I’m honored to be able to put these images the people who let me.
