Today we’d like to introduce you to Carina Martin.
Hi Carina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started acting in 2022. As a background actress, really fast I worked with people I loved. It’s nice to be able to go back and forth between breaks and different projects.
I worked in background then landed my first lead role and the second film. Black start portal is in the making. Then I got a scholarship and acting in 2026.
To me that showed my that I was heading the right direction. People were spending lots of money on productions and that is a lot of pressure to give one person.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I never thought I would go back to acting being a mom. 8 months after giving birth. I did Shadow Over Jamul. It was my very first lead role. I gave that role my best. And it was kinda like a small wake up call. Telling me I can be a mom and an actress too.
I remember not having anyone to practice lines with. I remember putting my baby to sleep while learning my lines. Somehow I finished the film. I do remember we filmed the film backwards.
My husband was deployed over seas. And it was a very hard time in my life. The film was a very nice distraction. It did very well that we are now making a new series.
I still can’t take a lot of work since my son is very young. But the future looks very bright.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart from other actresses are a few things, I am an assistant director, I am sew and I am CPR and BLS certified. I am also a prop maker and an editor. And I will never stop learning new skills.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see my self being an acting coach or teacher. That’s if I don’t continue to be a casting director. But there is room for both in this industry and quite common. The industry has its busy times and slow times. You have to be able to adjust to be able to make this full time.
