Rising Stars: Meet Christy Linton of Temecula

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Linton.

Christy Linton

Christy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I received my Bachelor of fine arts degree at the University of North Texas, which seems like a lifetime ago, in Fashion Design, yet, my journey to painting is quite recent. I picked up a paint brush during lockdown after a devastating event in my life, where I discovered painting was my only reprieve. It was here that I found my life’s calling, I felt home. Painting was such an awakening for me, as if I found a treasure that had been hidden away. I’m often asked what inspires me and I’d like to share that since I’ve been painting, I see the world differently. I feel more alive and see things through artists eyes. My brain lights up when I see mother natures art, whether it’s sunlight dancing across the ebb and flow of waves or a marble slab with its fusing swirls of color and lines or the shapes found within the bark of a tree, I take note and then use that inspiration to experiment in my studio. I’m drawn to the freedom abstracts give me and with this freedom and constant experimenting I get to intuitively paint, where I might start with some texture or a textile or maybe a color scheme, other times its lines or shapes that guide me. But what’s important in my work is the fluidity and sense of calm across the canvas, drawing the viewer in to want to touch the art or see it up close and to move across the entire painting with wonder. Since creating art is my therapy, my hope is for viewers to slow down and take it all in, to feel peace and tranquility with my art.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well what brought me to art was the biggest struggle of my life, so now I’m grateful for my struggles because without them I wouldn’t be here doing what I was meant to do, to paint for my own peace of mind and the fact that others like what I do is the icing on top

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What sets me apart is my ever evolving experimentation. My constant search for that certain something new and different unlike anything any other artist has done, yet staying true to who I am and my personal style of fluidity with water and acrylics, my plays on light, whether using gold leaf or interference paints that change depending on the angle or lighting you view my art in. The multi dimensional effects I strive for within each piece while still holding onto that subtle calming feel within my art.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I feel like original collectible art has already become something attainable for just about anyone. It is not just for the prestigious and wealthy. And the world of social media and online presence has brought art to everyone. More and more artists, we have the chance to share ourselves with the world because of this technological revolution in art. Art is so necessary. Connection for humans is so necessary and art is a huge way we get to do that. As an artist, I know how isolating it can be in your studio hours on end but then to be able to share this piece of yourself, a piece of your soul, with others, that is greatest gift.
