Today we’d like to introduce you to Cultivate Creations.
Hi Cultivate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, Eva and Kelsey here! We’ve known each other for five years through our boyfriends/husbands who are brothers. We instantly developed a friendship through our similar styles, our love for the outdoors, and passion for DIY’s.
We started cultivate creations from our love of plants, home decor, and understanding the impact daily stresses can have on the self. Feeling the stresses from our full time jobs as well as our personal lives, we wanted to create items that contributed to a personal oasis – a “happy place” where one can pause, unwind, and recharge.
Our earliest products were centered on handmade macrame designs (keychains, wall hangers, plant hangers) but we’ve found that our creations are constantly evolving because we love experimenting and trying new things. Not only have we expanded our macrame designs to more functional products, like purses, tote bags, magazine organizers, and shelves, but we also integrated a self-care line that’s comprised of candles, bath soaks, soaps, lotion bars, and essential oil sprays.
This year our goal has been to promote sustainability through our products and engaging the community. Earlier this year we introduced our refill program for our candles, bath soaks, and essential oil sprays to reduce waste and impact on the environment. Customers can send us their empty containers and have it refilled for 25% off. Our most recent endeavor is hosting a community garbage cleanup, which also includes a raffle with items from other local, small businesses.
As we continue to grow, we hope to keep up the momentum of promoting the importance of caring for the self and the environment, while also empowering our customers to try new things.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It can be easy to be discouraged when our products aren’t selling, or we’re not seeing growth in our customers and/or social media. It’s also been tough to not compare ourselves to other thriving small businesses. Luckily, we have each other during this journey to support one another, and remind ourselves of our mission, not to take ourselves too seriously, and celebrate the small wins. We’ve continued to turn our challenges into motivators and learning lessons in an effort to always be improving.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We sell handmade macramé and self-care products that are designed to be simple, affordable, and sustainable. Our most favorite item is our macrame air plant hanger, inspired by a desire to have our plant babies by our side while adventuring on a road trip in the beautiful outdoors.
When we realized we both had a passion for DIY’s and came up with the idea to start cultivate creations, it was initially just for fun. However, we found that it evolved into something bigger where we’re constantly working together to brainstorm how to push it further and make an impact. We’re proud that we started it because it has led us to thinking more strategically about the types of products we make so that it’s affordable and reduces environmental impact.
We feel that what sets us apart from others is that we’re not just a macrame business, but we also create everyday items that serve a purpose and help to reduce stress like our handmade candles, bath soaks, and essential oil products. It’s also important to us that our products reduce the impact on the environment, by being plastic free, made from recycled material, or package free.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Most of our products are inspired by our love for the outdoors, so we try to use colors inspired by our natural surroundings, or items that we find in our communities like driftwood from the beach or herbs and flowers from the garden.
