Rising Stars: Meet Curt Wiser

Today we’d like to introduce you to Curt Wiser.

Hi Curt, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Florida with creativity in my blood. From as far back as I can remember, I would draw, write or build things.

As an adult, my true passion emerged as a writer/filmmaker. In 2019, I moved to California along with my good friend and collaborator Curtis Norton to further my career. My credits include being the Writer/Director of the Suspense feature Cam-Girl and a streaming series Leave Quietly, which is currently in post-production.

This love for filmmaking has also led me to write movie reviews and entertainment journalism for OCmoviereviews.com.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been much like the road when I drove from Florida to California, winding and bumpy, yet filled with ups and downs.

My parents were very supportive and patient with me growing up. I was obese and very depressed all through my youth. When I was 20, after I had surgery for a torn ACL, I lost eighty pounds and never looked back. Since that life changing experience, I have been positive, driven and tackled any obstacle head on.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
One benefit I have always had as a filmmaker is my fine arts/visual effects background. It has been invaluable having other skills like this.

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Animation from The University Of Central Florida. This has led to freelance work doing visual effects on other people’s projects and also my own work.

I even create traditional, hand drawn animation and built my own light table to do that.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Absolutely, big shifts. I see streaming content becoming even more popular over the years. I see studios and platforms like Netflix releasing movies in theaters and streaming on the same day.

I see streaming companies offering the option for subscribers to see their content in the movie theaters they own.

My hope is, this will create more opportunities for anyone working in the indie or studio system. It will be more crowded, but that just means you have to make an impression.
