Rising Stars: Meet Delaney Hoffman of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Hoffman

Delaney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was adopted from the Philippines in 1999 and raised in Wisconsin my whole life. I’ve grown to love all things art, from drawing to writing stories, to making short videos, the passion for being an artist was always there. Once I got to college at UW-Stout, I learned all about filmmaking. It was all about how to tell a story, and I quickly fell in love with the cinema world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been far from smooth, to get where you want to go you have to fail. Not once but many many times. I’ve had people tell me to give up, people I looked up to would tell me that it’s too much. But I refused to stop chasing my dream, no matter how “extra” it seemed. I refused to settle for enough.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a filmmaker and tattooist. I graduated with the degree in Video Production and continue to create films, photography, and freelance in that industry. I also work as an editor for a nation news station in San Diego but have done work in other realms such as a sports videographer for college, editor for a famous YouTube channel called Animators vs Games, was director of operations for a luxury goods art company, and more in the past couple of years. I’m most proud of recently filming and completing my first short film (outside of school) called Red Door Yellow Door. It’s currently being submitted to festivals in hopes of winning awards but it was already a super rewarding experience working with other passionate and professional filmmakers. I believe that there’s a difference between those who dream and those who take risks. I dream on a daily but I took the risk and moved out to California alone with no money in my pocket because I’m determined to create a life I deserve.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Working hard and seeing your hard work pay off makes me happy. Not just in jobs but in your relationships, family, friends, and yourself. When you put love into every aspect of your life, you’ll see a difference and it’ll make you happy.
