Rising Stars: Meet Destini Perkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destini Perkins. She and her team shared their story with us below:

Destini Perkins

Destini Amaris Perkins is from Oceanside, California; she is 21 years old and currently holds the title for Miss Black Global 2023 where she uses her platform to inspire young girls to be confident in their purpose and advocate for themselves.

Destini is a college student creative director who organizes events and photoshoots, a virtual social media assistant, public speaker, model, actor, and UGC Creator across many social platforms. Destini is a member of the NAACP Youth & College Division, a media intern for the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce, the co-founder and co-host of the podcast: Empowering You Forward, where she teaches young women skill sets for success and how to develop into the best version of yourself! Some of her hobbies include hip-hop and Latin dancing, kickboxing, traveling, networking, and hair styling. The California State Legislature, city councils, and congress members have recognized Destini on many accounts due to her successes within community service!

Destini began her journey serving the community by creating unique spaces for others to feel inspired since 2019.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have definitely been challenges. Collaborating with those who didn’t see eye to eye till the end of a project, facing burnout when overworking myself, balancing “me time” when working on multiple activations with various organizations. However, I strongly believe that when something is your calling, you have the willpower and drive to power through the challenges. Knowing that uniting women through events and projects is a component of my calling, I always persevere.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of my drive and how intentional I am with how I move in life. I also recognize that being a creative director at 21 with my accolades sets me apart. But I am not my accolades; I am my character. I am solution-oriented, driven, ambitious, creative, inclusive, energized, and social!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that San Diego is diverse in people and amazing food! We have the best weather and hold many opportunities!
