Rising Stars: Meet Diana Villex of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Villex

Hi Diana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello there, Im DiANA! I make cool stuff and freaky music.

One of my favorite things is bringing fun to world around me everywhere I go.

Every single day individually, spent living in the moment, having fun and spontaneously traveling across the Southwest for creative inspiration.

I grew up along the border of Mexico and the U.S.
As a border town girl who’s also a first generation Latina in a family that loves to party, I found it compelling to pursue something that goes with the theme of my own life.

At an early stage in life, I had felt a natural gravitation towards fashion and music. It all started with a pair of shiny blue heels with glitter on them and a CD collection.

Over the years, I started developing an internal urge to express myself through fashion and music. After graduating with a degree in Media Arts, I started working as a technical director in a local News station at the time, however there was no excitement.

After that experience I moved across the country back and forward, West Coast to East Coast, multiple times.

During that time of traveling and moving around, I was inspired by all the new interesting places and talented people I met along the way.
In each trip of living across the country, I had learned about fashion design and music production from the people I lived with . Thats when I realized, life was prepping me for this. It was very important to me at some point in life to take risks, so I opened the surprised doors for those new worthy life experiences.

Once I settled in the Southwest, I had a desire to showcase exciting pieces of my life journey through music and fashion accessories. Soon after I needed something to host so I started my own brand titled DeeVee. The brand consists of entertainment, digital products, music, and fashion.

For now, I am happily operating in a pink studio room under the umbrella DeeVee, I run aproximally 3 different blogs, 2 You Tube channels , 3 Instagrams , an online shop, and 2 recording artists.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road I’m on right now was indeed very challenging to get to, as I had no keys to even get on a road for a long time. Meaning I had no stable foundation or home to set up a recording studio, desk, or an art table. No place or room to create in. It took many pay checks to afford the pink studio room Im in right now, the biggest struggles were definitely distractions, heartbreaks, lack of financial means, depression and self doubt.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the owner and founder of a brand name DeeVee, under that brand I release music, jewelry, videos, blogs, and an online shop. So far I’ve released 5 albums I produced all on my own along with 28 singles. However, when Im not making music Im definitely working on new designs for the shop. I make glitter heart necklaces and keychains that spark up any atmosphere. If I’m not in the jewelry making department, you can catch me in the studio editing a video for my You Tube channel which has more than 100 videos. What sets me apart from others is that I do all of this alone in my room, with nothing but my imagination and determined mindset to color the world and make it more fun!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Yes, find the person you want to live like, hang out with them, study them and take notes. However, you cannot lose yourself in the process. Remember that they are helping you become the best you, they are not trying to change you completely just enhance you. Stay true to yourself. The best network advice that worked for me was being genuinely friendly, interesting, and fun. One last thing, I will mention a speech improvement class goes along way too 😉
