Rising Stars: Meet Dwayne Taylor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dwayne Taylor.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in California, action sports were all around me. Not as fortunate as some others (living with my Grandparents), so I Jumped into BMX. The sport of BMX took me out of the house and eventually around the world. Cycling has a great community that fulfilled a family aspect I was missing. That’s probably why I dove into it so deep. With an unbelievable amateur career that got me 5 National Titles, and went on to being a BMX Racing professional. In the middle of all that, I was fortunate enough to secure a job in the action Sports field of Marketing. Working with some of the highest profile companies (FOX Racing, DC Shoes, Deft Family, Excettera) and Managing Action Sports Athletes (Travis Pastrana, Dave Mirra, Ricky Carmichael, Nate Adams, Excettera) that were at the top of their game. I broke off from the corporate walls and worked freelance looking to give back to this great sport that has been so fulfilling to me, I wanted to share my experiences and love for the sport of BMX. Luckily, I landed an amazing opportunity with Mongoose Bicycles. Mongoose saw my history and Racing background and asked if I could help them re-introduce Mongoose BMX Bicycles back into the competitive racing arena. But not like other companies that throw a huge budget and try and secure the best on the podium today, but instead starting off “Grass Roots” and fulfilling a spot that had been abandoned for so long, “the Fun aspect.” So, I formed a team under my company LRC (La Revolution Cafe) to make the LRC/Mongoose Bicycle Motocross Racing Team. With a batch of new kids to the sport and support from the Mongoose Bike brand we were off and running. From those humble beginnings to no competing at national events and with team stand-in in the top 10 in the country we have made our name in a big way. The LRC/Mongoose team races all around the country all year long and even have a team member in Singapore. I could not be more happy and proud with the assembly of over 30 riders from 5-50 years old that are representing the ideals and passion I myself have for this sport.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was hard Bringing the Mongoose brand back to the Hardcore attitudes in the sport. Mongoose had left the competitive scene to build bikes for big box stores (Walmart, Target) while other brands have stayed true to the heritage of racing. But I believe the organic nature of the Grass Roots comeback with co-branding with my LRC brand was the key to the success. trust me there were many tears from my team because other riders would make fun of their Mongoose bikes (kids are ruthless), But I would always remind them of the rich pedigree the Mongoose Brand has as being the 1st production BMX Racing bike that dominated through the years, and they are now part of that history. And there is nothing better than winning on a bike the “Cool” kids made fun of and now all want.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
La Revolution Cafe (LRC) is just a race team, it is a full-functioning online company. With news and events, selling parts and appeal but mostly photography and graphics. We are all about anything with wheels. From cars to bikes. We don’t stay in the box; from Drift car Graphics to full-on photo shoots, we can get you what you need to not only ride but get the images that will make you look good doing it. But the team aspect has been the biggest accomplishment the I am most proud of. From performance to our look the LRC brand will always lead never fallow.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Luckily, we are multi-industrial, so when one slows, we can recoup and adapt to reconfigure for the next chapter. But as of now, with the LRC/Mongoose race team, we are bike heavy. Primarily BMX, we have been moving over to other two-wheeled events that are growing in popularity. Pumptrack and MTB seem to be the wave of the future. We are gearing up now to make a push. But riding is our passion, so we will gravitate towards that always.
