Rising Stars: Meet Erika Morse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Morse.

Erika Morse

Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Becoming an author was a goal of mine from a young age. I have always loved being creative. When I had my own children is when the series, There’s a Tornado In Our House, began. I would clean up a room and my boys would come in behind me and mess it up: Tornadoes! The next two in the series, There’s a Picky Eater In Our House and There’s a Night Owl In Our House, soon followed. In May of 2018, I had a dream (I always had very vivid dreams) that would then become my first novel, The Road to Fall. I wrote the book in two weeks but then took a year to develop the story better. I am currently working on the sequel to the novel; it isn’t coming along a bit slower. All of my books are available on Amazon. It’s been a really fun adventure.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been a few speed bumps along the way. Some of the struggles were navigating the self-publishing part. Once I completed it the first time, the next time was a lot easier. The hardest part is marketing. I’ve attended a few book fairs but not been very successful. I promote it on social media as well, but it’s hard. I teach full time and have busy teenage boys, so I also don’t have a lot of extra time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think one thing that sets me apart from others is that I write children’s books and novels. I don’t have just one niche.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important characteristics that have been important to my success are integrity and commitment. I feel this way because having integrity is, in my opinion, one of the top characteristics in a person. My values and words match, and that is super important to me. Commitment is important to my success; had I not stayed focused, I would not have published books. I’ll continue to post on social media and write letters of inquiry to publishers.
