Today we’d like to introduce you to Heatherlyn (River).
Hi Heatherlyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Chronic pain and trauma at a young age lead me to yoga, and some “neurospicy” sensitivities and mental health struggles lead me to mindfulness and self-regulation practices. These are were transformative for me, empowered me to participate in my own healing, and now I love sharing them with others so they can also benefit and bless their own lives and becoming.
When I served as an apprentice to a yoga teacher and owner of a studio in Minneapolis, many there thought I was a teacher already, so that lead me to contemplate training and getting certified. The practice had so changed my life, I thought, well, I’d be absolutely honored if I got to be part of another person’s healing journey.
I also have been making music my entire life and consider it my medicine, so the combination of all these healing and truly self-loving practices feel vibrantly aligned and I love creatively synergizing them in my own unique modality and experiences. I’m really grateful to have them and for opportunities to offer and share them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I moved to Point Loma/Ocean Beach a year ago and for 6 months I curated a beautiful boutique pop-up studio. It was gorgeous, in partnership with a little chapel that’s warm, inviting, and full of good vibes.
It was challenging, I think mostly, because people have yet to get to know me in this city and I didn’t have a marketing budget. I did all the gorilla marketing and networking I could, and it just wan’t growing to that critical sustainable level. It was really hard to put all that work into each session and to have so few there to receive what I prepared and created.
I made the painful decision to put that project on pause. We may get to resume that one day, but now, I’m redirecting my energies, focus, and resources on special events, offering my services as a speaker/presenter and I’m available for retreats!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I essentially offer pathways toward peace, clarity, freedom, and self-love – ways to open ourselves to embody, receive and be channels these gifts of life that are inherently our birthright. I invite people to reclaim their true voices and I offer ways to increase nurturance, resilience and be attuned to their own magical, soulful juiciness.
I believe most of us want to show up to our lives as our best selves and we all have things that get in our way. We all need to take care, attend, refuel to give back those around us – our families, workplaces, friendships, communities.
Mindfulness helps us identify our inner and outer obstacles and then find the solutions we need to live authentically and shine our lights.
To equip and empower people to show up to themselves and their lives well, I weave interactive experiences with with simple, tangible transformative practices they can take into their everyday lives, speaking on mindfulness, my own story, and sharing original songs that are in and of themselves little impressionable lessons and meditations for changing our minds and re-directing inner narratives.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’m available to speak and present for your events, retreats, your conferences, businesses, and schools! I always bring my music as well! You could say I’m a musical keynote speaker.
I’d also love to collaborate with local yoga and healing spaces, and even within the homes of resonant individuals, to create meaningful concerts of story, breath, and songs. Please reach out if this sounds like a synergistic opportunity for us to co-create together!
I’m grateful to be in a city so full of people who value these things!
