Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Sterling.
Hi Jackie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Cave of Wonders was originally opened in 2014 by David “Scott’ Chatfield, a graduate gemologist with a deep love for stones, beauty, and spiritual connection. Scott had a truly magical presence, he was insightful, intuitive, and created a space that felt like a sanctuary for anyone who walked through the door. I started out just helping him around the shop, Learning from him little by little, eventually being inspired to start the road to being a graduate gemologist myself.
After Scott passed away in 2018, the loss was deeply felt by by everyone who knew and loved him. In time I was given the opportunity to carry on what he started, something that felt like both an honor and a way to continue serving the community that had supported us both.
Since then I’ve worked to carry Scott’s legacy forward while allowing the shop to grown into its next chapter. It’s still rooted in the same magic and intention he created , but now also reflects my own energy, perspective and vision. From hand selected gems and meaningful jewelry to spiritual tools, the shop has become a place where legacy and new energy intertwine and I feel honored everyday to be part of its evolution.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been finding the balance between preserving the spirit of what was already built and adapting to change. When you step into the role of a caretaker of a place that people already know and love there’s a deep responsibility to maintain its essence, but also a need to evolve and grow in meaningful ways.
Another ongoing challenge is the emotional and energetic side of the business. Working in a metaphysical space means holding space for others, which requires a lot of grounding and personal care. I’ve had to learn how to protect my own energy and set healthy boundaries, so I can keep showing up for others authentically and consistently.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Cave of Wonders offers a little something for everyone, whether you’re deeply spiritual, just starting to explore, or drawn to the beauty of crystals and natural elements. My background as a Graduate Gemologist gives me a unique perspective. I approach stones not just from a metaphysical standpoint, but also with a deep understanding of their scientific properties.
I specialize in helping people connect with tools and practices that support their personal growth. The shop has become a space where people feel seen, supported, and welcome to be themselves without judgement.
What sets me apart is the combination of formal gemological training and intuitive practice. I love educating people not just about what something means energetically, but where it comes from and how it formed. It’s that blend of science and spirit that really shapes how I work and what I offer.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
To me the most important part of finding a mentor is being open to learning new things and sharing your own knowledge and skills in return. A successful mentorship is built on understanding both people bring something valuable to the table. When you share similar values, there’s real potential for mutual growth. At the same time its important to remember that everybody’s on different paths, so take what resonates with you, and build on it in a way that feels true and healthy for your own journey.
