Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakob John.
Hi Jakob, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am Jakob John the Founder and Owner of Soul ShakeDown Studios in North County San Diego. I started playing in a band years back and have actually done an article with you prior for that as well. But now I am here running the largest independent studio in North County and helping around 200 artists a month create their dreams into a reality. As well as running and operating the studio I am also Producing/Mixing for some of San Diegos largest names as well as some of the biggest artists from the West Coast. Recently I have worked on songs with Kalan Frfr, Peysoh, OTM, Lil Weirdo, Chito Ranas, Bishop Snow, Flashy B, SieteGang Yabbie, 22gfay, and many many more. Since I own the studio and work here daily it makes it easier to lock in and be here 12 hrs a day, everyday of the week when you are doing what you love. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No the road has been far from smooth, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I have had countless relationships fall apart professionally and personally through my pursuit of creating my own studio and building a sound but the people that are around now are supposed to be here and honestly I don’t hold any hard feelings towards anyone I have just been focused on my goals and my dreams and figuring out how to get closer to those everyday that I can.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known in the city for my Production for all the incredible local artists but I also have songs that are at over 10 million each from overseas and that are all in Portuguese. So for any of the Portuguese speakers you can check out some of the songs I have with Greg Ferreria “Joga Uma Pra Baixo” or another song with Felp22 “RJ” that just came out more recently.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
This is a very deep question that I could go on for a while about but the best thing about our city is our raw talent and our drive. But I wouldn’t say our worst but something that’s changing is that we have been the underdogs in the Music Business for a while and that’s what has created all the artists to have such raw talent but it also for some reason keeps some of the most talented people underground. But to be honest that is all changing now and we will be paving the way for some real San Diego Superstars.
