Rising Stars: Meet Janay Harding of Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janay Harding.

Hi Janay, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was younger, I tried Karate at the age of 10 and ended up seeing that through until I got my Black Belt at age 14. A year later I decided to explore something more challenging and that’s when I found MMA. Not knowing much about the sport and being quite young, I did this as a hobby until I graduated high school where I then I started training full time and competing in MMA. There’s been many ups and downs during the journey but moving away to Thailand was definitely something that helped steer me to new heights and give me the exposure needed to get into Bellator and move through the rankings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, I’ve had a lot of adversity to face involving moving countries, financial difficulties, the restrictions of the pandemic, and most recently, detached retina surgery, but I’ve stuck true to my path and am happy with all the hurdles I’ve overcome.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional mixed martial artist who fights for the Bellator promotion. I’m most well-known for my clean striking and I’m most proud of my victories in these high-level promotions. I think what sets me apart is my constant growth and my dynamic abilities.

What do you think about luck?
I do feel a few of my opportunities have been to fault of luck but by way of positive thinking and manifestation. Things like securing campaigns with Bose out of many other talent that have applied have come down to luck. I’ve also had a lot of bad luck with injuries, opponents pulling out or visa’s not going through in time which has sabotaged opportunities for me.
