Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Henry.
Hi Janet, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story as an Esthetician began in 2001 with a hairstylist I had at the time. I was 19 years old and didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up. She told me she thought esthetics would be a great fit for me. What is an Esthetician I wondered? I decided to give it a try and 20+ years later here I am!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As an entrepreneur, it isn’t always a smooth road. In the beginning, shortly out of Esthetician school, it was difficult to get my foot in the door because I didn’t have experience in the industry. I worked at a few day spas in the beginning before I decided to go out on my own. I have been fortunate having worked in a hair salon for 14 years as the only Esthetician to build a wonderful clientele that I am thankful for everyday. I have had my own location, Ritual Beauty for almost three years which has been a journey through Covid but as entrepreneurs with a passion for what we do, we adapt to whatever situations are thrown our way. My clients have been nothing but supportive through the years. Overall, it has been a challenging yet beautiful ride so far and I can’t imagine doing anything else!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I remember way back my friend Nathalie, whom I went to Esthetican school with said “hey, I found this new thing we should try it”. I wondered who in the world would actually want this service done. It seemed crazy! It was lash extensions! We fumbled around and practiced on each other. She hated it, but I found I really had a knack for it. I have been doing lash extensions for over 18 years now before they were even mainstream. I have a passion for knowledge and education so I am always seeking new wonderful treatments and services to add to my offerings at Ritual. Recently my business has shifted to focus on creating overall well-being. I like to call it skin & soul care. I am a certified Reiki Practitioner, Sound Healer and I also do Crystal Healing work. Many people don’t realize how much of what is going on inside of our bodies affects our skin. My goal is to create a comfortable, safe environment for my clients that not only focuses on beauty but creating a glow both inside and out. I even have a little crystal shop inside Ritual Beauty which has brought so much joy and amazing energy to the treatment space.
What makes you happy?
My happiness comes from helping others. That has always been my calling and I feel that I am expanding that more everyday! My Fiance Adam and my Corgi Jerry are my happiness outside of my business. We love going on adventures and exploring. One of my favorite places to unwind and reconnect with the earth is Joshua Tree. It definitely is my happy place.
