Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Low.
Hi Jenny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
During the quarantine period, I discovered my passion for wig-making after binge watching Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Initially creating synthetic wigs for drag queens and cosplayers, my journey evolved as I began assisting a local hairstylist and wig maker. This experience led me to delve into crafting human hair wigs, catering to women experiencing hair loss.
Along the way, I taught myself the intricate art of hand-tying hair into lace, also known as ventilation. This newfound skill allowed me to offer wig repair services, enabling many women to preserve their cherished wigs. Currently, I divide my time between working part-time in a salon and dedicating myself to wig-making.
Under my brand, BigWig Bar, I am thrilled to announce that we can now accept insurance for medical wigs, further expanding our reach and impact in the community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My entrepreneurial journey has been quite the rollercoaster ride. Starting a business with no prior knowledge of the industry posed its challenges, leading to a bumpy road ahead. Initially, I held the misconception that creating a product would automatically attract customers, only to realize that success in business requires much more than that.
Through extensive reading and research, I have gained valuable insights and skills that have significantly smoothed out the journey. As a result, things have been on a positive trajectory lately, and I am excited about the upward momentum of my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At BigWig Bar, my business encompasses a range of services including wig creations, repairs, makeovers, and now the ability to accept insurance for medical wigs. One of my standout specialties is ventilation repairs, a niche avenue that not many in the industry venture into. My clients often express their gratitude for finding someone who can expertly preserve their valuable wigs through these intricate repairs.
Being part of this community is a source of immense pride for me, as I am dedicated to helping women regain their confidence and sense of self after experiencing hair loss. It is truly an honor to play a role in empowering individuals to embrace their beauty and uniqueness.
