Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Javier.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurship journey began over a decade ago, reselling popular brand-name items on platforms like Mercari and Poshmark. What started as a way to help make ends meet quickly turned into a strategic effort to build capital for future business ownership. I didn’t know exactly what kind of business I wanted to pursue, but I trusted that if I stayed persistent, the right opportunities would come.
After years of working as a business partner and advisor, my path took a meaningful turn when I was expecting my first child. That’s when the “mompreneur” mindset truly kicked in. I launched Sweet Cart Rental, offering self-serve desserts for events of all sizes—a business that blended my creativity with a growing desire for flexibility and family-focused work.
Inspired by the emotional and transformative journey of motherhood, I recently authored my debut children’s book, Some Bunny Always Loves You. It was born from the long days and tender moments of parenting and reflects the realization that my son is here to teach me just as much as I am here to teach him. My hope is that this book brings warmth and joy—whether it’s being read by a parent at bedtime or discovered by a little one looking for a heartfelt, happy story.
Through it all, my family remains the heart of my entrepreneurial journey. They are my grounding force and my biggest motivation, no matter where I am in life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every business venture has its risks and challenges, but I knew from the bottom of my heart that I wanted to pursue it no matter what obstacles would come. I’m so fortunate to have a loving and supportive fiance who helped me finance both of my business ventures and day-to-day operations.
One struggle that seems to follow me through every business venture is imposter syndrome. With my most recent project, stepping into the role of an author felt unfamiliar — and honestly, I found myself questioning whether I was worthy of that title.
Then one day, while a friend was helping me take photos of my book, I came across a wall that read, “We are storytellers.” That moment felt like the sign I needed. I may not always feel like an author, but I know I have a story worth sharing — and that’s what truly matters.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
With the experience I have from multiple business ventures in the past decade, I’m able to help local business owners launch and sustain business here in SD county. I started as a part-time advisor in the height of covid, but I’m so passionate about what I do and find it so rewarding to be able to help our underserved community that I have been advising for over 5 years now. I try my best to advocate for those who deserve a fair recognition in the business community because not all successful business look the same and they deserve to be noticed. Thank you to the Asian Business Association and the Small Business Development Center for providing me the platform to fuel my passion.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel like being determined, coachable and resilient are important qualities to my success. To me, success isn’t about fancy titles, hitting sales goals, or being well-known in the community. It’s about being able to pivot when needed, having the courage to ask for help, and striving to be even 1% better than I was yesterday.
