Rising Stars: Meet Joanna Sanchez of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Sanchez.

Joanna Sanchez

Joanna, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my photography journey when I first picked up my parents digital camera when I was 7 years old. From a young age, I was fascinated with taking photos of my family and friends and discovering the endless creative opportunities. This passion led me to begin my journey in the photography world that first started out as a hobby to what know is my full time business.

As I progressed through the years with different digital cameras, I finally had saved enough money by the age of 16 to buy my first DSLR camera. I had made sure to also take photography classes the last two years of high school and I learned so much more about editing and different affects that can be applied to photographs, that opened a whole new world for me. I was on top of the world because I had more capability to play around with settings, lenses, angles and my creativity. Each step, whether it was taking a photo or discovering a new editing style or even posing my family members for practice has led me to where I am at today.

Throughout my career, I’ve remained committed to connecting with my clients, and genuinely capturing their moments. This dedication, coupled with knowledge, customer service skills, editing skills, and focusing on capturing the emotions and feelings of everyone has been instrumental in reaching where I am today. Photographers need their subjects and with the support of my clients and family it is why I have been able to come this far.

Today, I am dedicated to my business full time and my main focus is to connecting with more people every day to provide that opportunity of capturing moments that last a life time. I find fulfillment in the reactions I receive after sending a completed gallery to my client, I love seeing my clients change their profile image to one of the ones I took, I enjoy the genuine connection that I get to build with so many people. Looking forward, I am excited about my business continuisly growing and serving so many more individuals, families, corperates and events with my passion of photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the most notable challenges I faced early in my career was finding my niche, what did I like to photograph, how did I like to edit, what equipment did I like to use. I had to discover what type of photographer did I want to be and with an industry where the possibilites are endless I had to do a lot of work until I found what fullfilled me as a photographer. This experience taught me valuable lessons in resilience because it didn’t just click right away, I think for about a year I took photos of anything and everything and messed around on photoshop and lightroom until I found that I loved taking portraits of people wether they were in groups or individually. Instead of seeing the discovery phase as a setback, I approached it as an opportunity to learn and grow, refining my skills and gaining a deeper understanding of capturing life’s moments, It not only brought me excitment and happiness but it helped me define my business mission.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In my career, I specialize in freezing moments where smiles and laughs are shared, tears are shed and hugs are given with a focus on being able to relive the every single moment I captured. I am known for my customer service; my vibrant, light and airy editing style; my perspective that reflects in my images and my attention to details with my clients and photographs. My work primarily revolves around portraits, special events and weddings.

What I’m most proud of is how I can alway learn something new from every session, there is always room to grow and I am so proud of how far I have come with dedication and persistence.

What sets me apart from others is that I genuinly put in effort to really get to know my clients. I believe my ability to connect to others provides me with the understanding of who they are and their dynamic. Being able to genuinely connect has been instrumental in bringing my clients vision to life, I gain their trust and meet their dream photography sessions expectations.

Overall, I am passionate about freezing time with my shutter button and I am dedicated to continuing to expand my knowledge and skills to keep up with trends while still staying true to my style in photography. I look forward to continuing to book more session, meet new familes and capture new memories.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is to stay true to yourself, the photography inu is extremely saturated but there is a photographer for everyone. If you don’t stay true to yourself or your work, you won’t be happy, it will stop being enjoyable and the drive to continue starts to fade away.
