Rising Stars: Meet Job Alcazar of Tijuana/San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Job Alcazar.

Job Alcazar

Hi Job, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From Inspiration to Impact: My Journey in the World of 3D Printing

It all began at one of my former jobs, where I watched in awe as design and prototyping engineers turned ideas into tangible realities with the help of 3D printing. Seeing how they transformed a simple digital model into a physical object felt almost magical. In that moment, something awakened in me: a deep curiosity to understand that technology.

I began researching everything related to 3D printing—who invented it, where it originated, the different types of printers, their applications… I wanted to absorb as much knowledge as possible. With some money I had saved, I decided to buy my first 3D printer. I didn’t even know how to turn it on. But little by little, with the help of specialized online communities, I began to understand how it worked, learning to calibrate, fine-tune, and improve the quality of each print.

Once I had mastered the basics, I took the next step and invested in a larger, more modern printer. Fortunately, by then, information about 3D printing had become much more accessible. One of the first ideas I dared to bring to life was designing, customizing, and printing Christmas ornaments. I didn’t have a specific market for them, but to my surprise, the product was well received and generated some profit. I reinvested that into an even more advanced and faster printer, opening up a world of possibilities: new materials, colors, textures, and shapes.

Entering the world of multicolor printing was a completely new experience. Being able to bring creative, aesthetic, and functional ideas to life was incredible. This growth has allowed me to collaborate with local designers and artists in Tijuana, creating collections of unique art pieces. As someone who loves art, it was a deeply rewarding phase for me.

3D printing continues to fascinate me because it is a universe that keeps expanding. It’s present in virtually every industry: construction, food, aerospace, toys, metallurgy, and now even in the medical field, where 3D-printed prosthetics and functional organs are already being developed. In short, it’s the tangible future happening today.

One of my biggest dreams is to use this knowledge to help people in need by creating affordable and functional prosthetics at a fraction of the traditional cost. I want that to be my contribution to society: to show that with passion, technology, and determination, we can change lives and leave a meaningful mark on this world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like any journey worth taking, mine in the world of 3D printing has had its fair share of challenges.

At the beginning, the biggest struggle was simply understanding how to operate my first 3D printer. I had no prior experience and no one to guide me in person. I spent countless hours troubleshooting prints that failed halfway, dealing with bed leveling issues, filament jams, and confusing slicer settings. It was frustrating at times, especially when you invest time, effort, and material only to end up with a flawed print.

Another challenge was financial. 3D printing isn’t cheap—between printers, materials, and maintenance, the costs can add up quickly. I had to make every purchase count, reinvesting every bit of income from my small projects just to keep growing.

Then there was the learning curve with design. I started with very basic designs and had to slowly build up my knowledge of CAD software and design principles. Trying to make something not just printable, but functional and aesthetically pleasing, was a whole different challenge.

And of course, building a customer base from scratch wasn’t easy either. There were times when my products didn’t sell as expected or when clients had high expectations that I wasn’t yet equipped to meet. But every setback became a lesson—and every lesson made me better.

Despite all that, I never considered giving up. The passion for what I do and the vision of what I want to achieve has kept me going through the toughest moments.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an industrial engineer by profession, specialized in the introduction of new products and the development of manufacturing processes. In addition, I’m deeply involved in the world of 3D printing—a passion that started from curiosity and evolved into a key tool in both my professional and personal growth.

My approach combines the technical knowledge of engineering with the creativity and flexibility that 3D printing offers. I specialize in creating custom pieces, ranging from decorative items to functional prototypes.

What I’m most proud of is having started from scratch in this field, learning in a self-taught way, and reaching the point where I now master advanced printers and complex processes, including multicolor printing.

What sets me apart is the combination of my engineering background, a human-centered approach, and a constant passion for learning. I’m not only interested in technological innovation, but also in its real impact on people’s lives.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as the ability to turn ideas into meaningful solutions that have a positive impact on others. . .True success is growing while helping others grow too.
