Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Gomez.
Hi Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born in Chula Vista, California on a scorching summer day, where my story began. Growing up, I had a fantastic childhood and was fortunate to have many family members who supported me throughout my journey. Initially, my dream was to become a firefighter, and I enrolled in college to pursue that goal. However, things took a turn when I obtained my EMT license and fell in love with emergency medicine. I worked as an ER technician in Oceanside, California, and enjoyed it immensely for a while.
As time went on, I began to feel unfulfilled and started to reassess my priorities. I got married to the love of my life in November of 2019. She is very supportive and encouraged me to find a more fulfilling career path. I had always been passionate about music and had a natural talent for it. In 2013, my younger brother introduced me to the world of DJing, and I fell in love with it. I worked hard to develop my skills from a hobbiest and eventually became a full-time DJ in 2019, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, I used the time to refine my craft, build a recording studio and once the County of San Diego gave the go-ahead to resume events, I hit the ground running, fully committed to pursuing my passion for music.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As a DJ, one might think that the job is all about parties and getting people to dance all night long, making it seem like a fun and stress-free job. However, that’s not always the case. When I first started DJing, I was only familiar with EDM and disco, but I quickly learned that to be a successful DJ, I needed to be able to read a crowd, understand local music preferences, think quickly on my feet, and remain humble. Thankfully, I was able to meet some amazing DJs through networking, who have guided me through the industry and continue to look out for me today.
Despite the support and guidance, starting my own business has been my biggest challenge to date. In May 2022, I formed an LLC, and since then, I’ve been on a crash course on how to do business. I’ve had to learn various skills, from bookkeeping to marketing and managing contracts, all of which can be daunting. However, with hard work and dedication, I know that I can overcome any obstacle that comes my way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a mobile DJ specializing in weddings, corporate events, and bar/lounges, I provide high-quality entertainment services that keep guests engaged and create an unforgettable experience. My specialty is creating customized playlists that cater to the specific needs and preferences of my clients. Whether it’s a wedding, corporate event, or bar/lounge, I make sure that the music is tailored to the audience, creating a fun and engaging atmosphere.
I am known for my ability to read the crowd, adapt to changing situations, and ensure that everyone is having a great time. I take pride in my ability to make each event unique and special by incorporating the client’s personal tastes and preferences into the music selection. I also work closely with event planners and coordinators to ensure a seamless flow of events and provide additional lighting and sound services to enhance the overall atmosphere of the event.
What sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and dedication to providing exceptional service. I go above and beyond to make sure that every aspect of the event is perfect, from the initial consultation to the last dance. I also offer a wide range of music genres, from the latest hits to classic oldies, ensuring that there is something for everyone. I am most proud of the numerous friendships and referrals I have received from satisfied clients who have appreciated my dedication, professionalism, and exceptional service.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
One of the main reasons I left my job at the hospital was to be able to spend more time with my family. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted how crucial it is to have quality time with loved ones. As a married father of four children, I am now able to spend more time with them than ever before. Being there for my family and watching my children grow up is priceless, and it brings me great joy to be able to prioritize my family while still pursuing my career. Additionally, being a DJ allows me to provide for my family while also having the flexibility to balance work and family life.
