Rising Stars: Meet Kaitlin Butler of La mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Butler.

Hi Kaitlin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career in cosmetology school in 2007 and quickly discovered my passion for precision haircuts. After graduating, I spent nearly a decade specializing exclusively in cutting behind the chair, refining my technique and building a loyal clientele doing what I love most.

Inspired by the incredible mentors I had throughout my journey, I transitioned into education and spent over a decade teaching in beauty schools, as well as mentoring licensed and experienced stylists looking to elevate their craft.

I’m currently taking a step back from teaching to refocus on my work behind the chair, and I’m excited to be starting this new chapter at Good Look, Babe in La Mesa.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. There were plenty of moments when I questioned everything, even considered walking away entirely (yes, dog grooming crossed my mind more than once).

But every challenge pushed me to grow, refine my craft, and reconnect with why I started in the first place. Hair has always brought me back.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I don’t love to pigeonhole myself into one category because I really do love both cut and color. But if you ask me what I truly love most, it’s haircutting. I specialized in cutting for nearly a decade, dedicating endless hours and thousands of dollars to refining my craft.

From long hair to short, precision cuts to razored and textured styles and everything in between, I’m deeply passionate about the art of shape, movement, and structure.

I’m incredibly proud of how my skills have evolved over the years. Not just technically, but in my ability to truly understand what my clients want, sometimes even helping them articulate it. I believe that collaboration is what creates the best results, and that partnership in the chair is what sets me apart.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love La Mesa! I actually grew up in the area, so being able to work here feels especially meaningful. It’s safe, clean, and full of genuinely kind people. The surrounding business owners and employees create such a welcoming atmosphere, and it truly feels like a strong community.

I really can’t complain, it’s even just a five-minute drive from my house, which makes it all the more special.
