Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyawn Simmons.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My nursing career began in 2007, which in when I obtained my first nursing job as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Akron, Ohio. I returned to school in 2008 to obtain my Associate Degree in Nursing, and to be honest, I never stopped being a student. I was married at the time with four children, so it was a habit of mine to obtain a degree, take a break, and enjoy life. I considered them to be breaks because I knew I hadn’t achieved my academic goal. In 2018, I had decided I was ready to relocate my family out of the state of Ohio. At that time in my life, I had a BSN degree, working as a Facility Manager of a dialysis unit in Cleveland, and had been divorced for two years, I was most definitely ready for a change in my life. It had always been a dream of mine to move to California, and it was all I talked about. It was truly time to put action behind my words and make my dreams a reality. I left Ohio on a travel contract and relocated my family to Northern California. We stayed in Northern California for three years and while we living there, I decided it’s that time again; School time! I returned to school during the pandemic and finished my final Nursing Degree in December 2021. It truly is surreal when I think about like I’m really never going back to school, no more school assignments.
For years I knew I wanted to start a business, and I kept hearing about IV hydration. I had received B12 shots before, but I had never a drip before. Once I completed school, I decided I wanted to know more about IV hydration and vitamin shots. I guess you can say I went back to school. I started the process in May, and I officially opened Blu Epiphany in November of 2022.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s no such thing a smooth road when entering the world of entrepreneurship. My comment isn’t meant to sound discouraging to anyone, it’s just to mentally prepare you, them, the reader for the reality of being an entrepreneur. There were times when I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing nor what I was talking about. I doubted myself and the idea of starting the business. I cried a little because I didn’t want to fail. I had to consider what my plan “B-C” were if “A” didn’t work out. I’m starting a business in a city that I literally only know five people, so my road isn’t smooth, however, I’m here for the challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
