Rising Stars: Meet Kimiko of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimiko.

Hi Kimiko, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My story is rather long, I’ll try to keep it as concise as possible. I have a rather diverse background. Being Native American Indian, Navajo Tribe and Japanese, I often found myself trying to fit in, Therefore I have tried several different types of avenues/adventures during my career.

While living in Los Angeles, Ca. I was an NFL cheerleader with the LA Raiders. This was decades ago, but it fulfilled my love for dancing and performing. I met a beautiful group of women while being associated with the Raiders. Best times of my life. From there I developed confidence and courage in the entertainment world. Soon I found myself as a Sports Reporter for CBS News for a segment called Sports Central. Later, CBS saw something in me that lead them to cast me in a morning news show for CBS. I was one of the segments that aired morning health tips and workout segments.

Later, I moved away from Los Angeles to San Diego. Reunited with my love for horses and animals. I bought a horse and started riding and completing in small horse shows. As luck would have it my horse suffered an unexpected injury and it was my quest to find a way to rehabilitate him back to health. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful and had to put him down. Hardest, most painful event of my life. Anyhow, I was determined to learn more about and help horses. I started school to be come an equine osteopath. In an effort to put myself through school I had to find a job that was flexible enough to allow me time to travel to school, studying and focus for the international board exam which followed my 4 year schooling program.. That’s when I became a wedding officiant.

Times were tough, but I buckled down financially and made it work. Officiating was a God send. Because I loved weddings, I loved seeing people happy and I love being included in the most wonderful time in people’s life’s. Somehow, I was good at officiating. I could relate to the couples, I knew what audiences liked and I didn’t have any fear speaking in front of public. It was like I was groomed all these years to become an officiant. Then Wedgewood wedding venue saw my work and soon picked my up as their preferred wedding officiant for a few of their venues: Carlsbad, Temecula, Escondido & La Jolla. I’m grateful to be part of the Wedgewood team. I love their couples and I thoroughly enjoy making Brides & Grooms special day even more spectacular.

I finally took the international board exam for Equine Osteopathy and just recently completed the Canine Osetopathy course too. And I have found my passion working weddings and helping horses and dogs too. Life could be any better than this. My parents always said “ find your passion” and make a career out of it. I didn’t think it was possible, until now. Thank you for your time and interested. Sincerely, Kimiko Tanaka

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any time you start something new there will be obstacles.
Of course, as a performer and speaker we are very critical of ourselves. But if you allow yourself to grown and do not beat yourself up too much, you will flourish and succeed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a wedding officiant and Day of Coordinator. Self made

I forgot to add I filmed an episode of “MARRIED AT FIRST SITE”
San Diego epsisode

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success comes with many attempts at failure. Allowing yourself to make mistakes is allowing yourself to grow.
