Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Weatherbee
Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Laura Hing-Chung Weatherbee, and I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Intuitively, I’ve always sensed there was a connection between physical health and mental/emotional well-being. That’s a big part of why the holistic approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine resonates so deeply with me. Ancient wisdom recognizes the intricate balance between body and spirit, and this profound knowledge comes from a deep connection to nature that is difficult for modern-day humans to understand. Although I come from a very science-heavy background (I studied chemical engineering in college and worked briefly for Pfizer), I’m also really drawn to a softer and more holistic approach to healthcare. I don’t believe you should have to choose between one or the other. It’s important to keep an open mind and find value in different ways of viewing the world.
In my journey, I’ve seen firsthand how integrating acupuncture with practices like qigong and meditation can transform lives. These therapies not only address physical ailments but also promote mental clarity and emotional stability. Living in San Diego, I draw inspiration from the abundant beauty of nature all around us. Through Live To Sustain, I share my passion for holistic health, encouraging others to explore and embrace a more integrated approach to wellness. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness the positive changes in people’s spirits as they achieve greater harmony in their lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not at all! I went down many “wrong paths” before I found the “right one”. And honestly, there is no such thing as a “right path” or a “wrong path”. Mistakes are part of the journey and everything is a learning experience. I’ve definitely struggled with confidence and imposter syndrome, and am always growing as a practitioner. In a world dominated by conventional medicine, it can be hard to be taken seriously. But ultimately, I believe in the tremendous healing power of traditional medicine. We’ve only just begun to integrate this wisdom into our modern lives.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and my business is called Live To Sustain. I am currently taking time off to stay at home with my baby girl, but will reopen my practice in 2025. I support patients on their journey to optimal health and wellness using a variety of tools including acupuncture and herbal medicine. I specialize in women’s health, fertility, and autoimmune disorders, I embrace a holistic approach to medicine, integrating Eastern philosophy with Western science. I meet you where you are at, while encouraging you to become your healthiest self.
How do you think about luck?
Seeing the amount of suffering in the word, 100% I landed a very lucky hand in life. I am fortunate to come from a loving and supportive family, both emotionally and financially. But I also believe that “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity”. I’ve missed a lot of opportunities because I wasn’t ready. Being in the right place at the right time is only half the battle. You have to be ready.
