Rising Stars: Meet Lee Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Jones.

Hi Lee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I served in the United States Army for 26 years and was faced with the challenge of transitioning to being a civilian again. Mentally, I wasn’t prepared. I wasn’t financially or educationally prepared either. Or so I thought. I realized that I needed help, and so I signed up to participate in a free Veteran Transition Assistance Program (VetCTAP) in Oceanside, CA where I learned strategies for easing the stresses of the transition. That program, that experience was everything. The most important thing I learned was there are people out there who are willing to support you and are betting on your success with their time.

I’ve since successfully transitioned and on occasions, have been asked to share my story with other Service Members who are faced with transitioning. The “Pay it Back” experience was powerful, but I wanted to do more. I reached out to my great friend and veteran Eric Gonzalez about starting a podcast. Our guest would be veterans who had successfully transitioned and their experiences during that process. But Hindsight the Podcast, now starting its third season, is focusing on people from all walks of life from business professionals, to rappers, to entertainers. I like to loosely focus on a simple theme… where they were, where they are, and where they are going while putting emphasis on the decisions they were faced with along their life’s journey.

I use this platform as a way to inspire and motivate my listeners, showing that all of our experiences are as equally different as they are similar.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a podcast from scratch was easy. Getting good at conducting interviews and growing my audience has been a challenge. Eric and I are both work in the supply chain industry, so when Covid hit and everything went to crap, it put an enormous strain on our “free time,” the time we operated in when producing the podcast. Eventually, we stopped because our schedules were super full.

I still had a passion for the podcast and so in 2022, I started interviewing guests again. I do everything myself, and at times, I know the quality of the product can be better and so I constantly work on providing an show that my audience can enjoy and hopefully get something out of it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What do I specialize in? That’s a great question. My career is in the Supply Chain field. That’s what pays the bills. Hindsight the Podcast is what I do to help motivate and encourage my audience to keep moving forward, to be better, and to help others along the way. I am also a photographer and a writer. So, what do I specialize in? What I can tell you is that I am going to focus more on the development of Hindsight the Podcast. I believe this platform, when done correctly, will educate, inspire, and entertain my audience. This is how I’d like to be set apart from the others. Create an experience where you walk away feeling empowered and ready to take on challenges, knowing that you are not alone. Yeah, that’s what I’d like to be known for.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Even though I produce and host Hindsight the Podcast on my own, it would be nothing without the guest who open up and at times become very vulnerable for my audience. Eric Gonzalez, my Army battle buddy was instrumental in the creation of Hindsight the Podcast and continues to be a sounding board for new ideas. Having different views is when the magic happens. Being open to unfamiliar perspectives and applying that gift to create new ideas is what Eric and I are very good at.

My family allows me the time and that is everything. Time is a valuable commodity often in high demand. Having their blessing means the world. My wife provides unique perspectives that help me to craft amazing interview questions and topics.

I have mentors in the Supply Chain world as well, who I look to for insight and at times guidance.

Russell Levy played an amazing role in my transition from the military. Russell is the founder and president of Veterans Transition Support (VTS). Before Russell, my resume was not getting any traction. He took my resume, reworked it and the rest is history. Russell also was one of the original guests on Hindsight the Podcast.
