Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydon Casella.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My passion for design was rooted in me by my parents. Both my mom and dad are successful designers, entrepreneurs, and sales reps in the surf industry, and growing up in Huntington Beach, CA, I was constantly surrounded by their work and others. A great mentor in high school fostered my love for visuals and creating until my current boss, Jake Craigmile, expedited it for me as a sophomore in college. Jake was my professor for Intro to Computer Graphics, a class that I had no interest in taking but had to fulfill my Graphic Design and Marketing major at PLNU. He walked in with his FSU hat and Ray-Bans on and told us that he wouldn’t be teaching us from the syllabus, but rather from his experience owning his own agency, Three Omens. On the first day he said that whoever was interested by the end of the semester would be invited to interview for an internship with his company, which definitely made me a little more excited about the class. Turns out, web design was my favorite sector of design yet! I love the space where organization and sales meet visual aesthetics, and web design had become a very fun creative and marketing outlet for me, piecing together the puzzle of building a users journey through a site to your desired outcome. At the end of the semester I interviewed for the internship, became a social media intern, quickly realized that web was calling my name, and have been working with the team ever since! Working while in college was challenging most times but very worth it to come into such an awesome environment, learn new things, build relationships with my coworkers, and be mentored by Jake Craigmile and Ian Harrington. Now that I have graduated, I will be continuing on as Junior Creative for Three Omens in a full time position, getting more in-the-weeds in web as well as lending a hand to the media production team.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Working in an office in tandem with doing school with a major and a minor was very challenging. Especially going from a rewarding and fun work environment to a graded and required school environment. Throughout the frustrations of time management and balance, I knew that I had to get my degree, and I knew that my work at Three Omens was teaching me immeasurable amounts, so I really just had to persevere and make things work.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am passionate about design and marketing, currently working as Junior Creative at Three Omens. As Junior Creative, I work mainly under the Director of Web, Jake Craigmile, building and maintaining WordPress and Shopify sites. I also assist Director of Media, Ian Harrington, with any of his production needs on and off set. I believe what sets me apart as a creative is my organization and time management, as this is second-nature for me and rare in a lot of creatives. Also my love and inquisition for marketing and user experience.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Connect with me on LinkedIn! Also looking to start freelancing.
