Rising Stars: Meet Maddie Chapman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maddie Chapman.

Hi Maddie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started with not being able to find any sunscreen that could really check all the boxes, just for my own use. They weren’t truly reef safe, made me break own, felt awful, didn’t stay on, or came in plastic packaging.

After five years of trial and error making my own sunscreen, I finally nailed it.

It was everything and way more!

My boyfriend, who is an ocean lifeguard, became enamored with it and it became an essential part of his routine. Sure enough, everyone in the lifeguard tower got a hold of it and loved it! After my unique sunscreen spread like wildfire, I decided I wanted to share it with the world.

I feel like helping the planet is not just part of my life’s purpose but a duty we all must take action on in whatever way possible.

The call to help the diminishing coral reefs and the amount of plastic we see in the oceans has never been so strong.

In addition, the new discoveries of the toxicity of chemical sunscreens is astounding.

This seemed like a great way to make a change and help others to make a change as well, no matter how big or small.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There are many challenges. Making sunscreen in and of itself is extremely challenging and time-consuming. Investing my own financial saving into it. Finding reliable, sustainable and organic ingredients. I’m a perfectionist, so I want the product to be gold every time. I do everything myself currently, making, ordering ingredients, packaging, labels, designing, shipping, social media, farmers markets, events and the list goes on, but I love it. It’s exciting that Live Sunny is helping people and the planet. That’s what fuels me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a professional equestrian specializing in show jumping. I’m known for being passionate about living life to the fullest. I’m a surf addict, newly sailor and skater, diver and explorer. I’m always searching for the next adventure and pushing my limits. I’m proud of learning to sail and especially on our 35’ boat (something I was really scared to do after one bad experience as a child) and diving into such an incredible new lifestyle. Our sailboat is the start to endless surfing and life adventures to come.

Something that makes me different is, I’m a do it yourself kind of person, down to earth, always in the search for feeling free, and feel insanely good helping others!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m also a yoga teacher. I started practicing yoga when I was 14 and got my first teacher training when I was only 17. I now teach a wide variety of yoga classes. Yoga and meditation has really changed my life.
