Rising Stars: Meet Marielle L’Heureux of Mission Valley East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marielle L’Heureux.

Marielle L’Heureux

Hi Marielle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in an athletic family and knew I always wanted to work in a field involving sports and athletics. I also have always wanted to help people get better and help them reach their fullest potential. That is where Athletic Training comes into the picture. I graduated San Diego State University with a bachelor’s in athletic training and then earned my Master’s in Sports Management from Point Loma Nazarene University. Just like everyone else, COVID shook up my life. I was grateful to be a part of Team One for San Diego Loyal, even if for a brief time. But now I am lucky to find myself in a sports performance injury prevention clinic called Prehab. We specialize in gait analysis and see a high clientele of runners, but as the athletic trainer on staff, I am able to see athletes of all backgrounds. It is the perfect, small, 1 on 1 clinic to help people work through their injuries and then hit their athletic goals post-injury.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is life ever a smooth road? The biggest bump or struggle I had along the way was most definitely working through the COVID pandemic. I was unfortunately let go from what I thought would be or could be my “career” job and left trying to find a new job in the middle of lockdown. I had settled for a non-athletic training job has a steppingstone to make it through the COVID pandemic, but once everything started opening back up and returning to normal, I knew it was time to get back to my purpose.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Certified Athletic Trainer working out of a clinic called Prehab. I am a Functional Movement Specialist and Impact Trained Athletic Trainer. At Prehab, we specialize in gait analysis for runners and are known for working towards preventing injuries so athletes don’t have to go through the rehab process, hence the name Prehab. Our comprehensive gait analysis is what sets us apart from other clinics. It involves a 3D motion capture, dual video cameras with precision photoelectric measurements, and an orthopedic evaluation. We are able to get an in-depth look at potential inefficiencies or weaknesses the runner may have and make changes to decrease injury risk and increase running performance. I am proud to work at Prehab because of our top-of-the-line care. We are able to provide 1 on 1 care for the client’s entire appointment time slot. This dedication allows for faster recovery!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
