Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaela Jacobs.
Hi Michaela, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a San Diego native, born and raised. From a young age I have always had a passion for the styling clothes and the fashion industry. Throughout high school I found myself expressing creativity best through what I wore. Going to a private catholic high school, this meant wearing a collared shirt underneath school sweaters, or wearing a thrifted coat on rainy days, or showcasing different color and styles through my shoe choice.
In high school, I was still figuring out who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do but always knew it included clothes, fashion, or reaching a bigger audience. Fast forward to my third year of college, COVID hit and the pandemic went into full swing. When COVID hit, I found myself struggling with a lot of anxiety like everyone else, and decided to outlet my stress with creativity. This is when I made the decision to pursue my social media career!
What started as solely making YouTube videos turned into me documenting my fashion and college lifestyle advice on Instagram and from then on continuously finding different ways and avenues to showcase my passion for fashion and styling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to consistently and confidently posting on my social media has not been easy. Whatever I’m doing in regards to social media whether it be shooting Instagram photos or outfit try-on IG Reels, I am having fun doing so. Influencing/ anything social media related includes voluntarily documenting most to all of your life and can catch up to you fast depending on how much screen time you’re taking in. While balancing school and work, this for me has led to also dealing with burn out, comparison, and imposter syndrome. Since the start of my journey, back in March of this year, I’ve learned more about my myself, my limits, and how to go about dealing with burn out altogether in order to better avoid this. This is still a struggle today and something any content creator faces, but being real with my audience and followers helps me make my social media feel like a safe and welcoming space for all!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fashion & beauty micro-influencer! Currently, specializing in college lifestyle content, specifically in Grad School now!
I am know most for my everyday fashion outfit inspiration and beauty product try ons, tutorials, and recommendations all while showcasing the reality lifestyle of a normal aspiring college student.
I am most proud of my authenticity and drive behind my work and believe it shows in my work. I strive to create inspiring and engaging content and always have a vision behind every photo I take and upload. I also am always looking to continually learn more about brands, companies, fashion trends, topics that need more attention, and altogether the beauty of brand marketing.
One thing I would say that sets me apart from others is my style and the way I do my makeup. To clarify on the makeup, I add sparkly colorful eyeshadow under my eyes for every makeup look I do. It’s different and I haven’t seen it done regularly before like I do, but I truly have a passion for makeup and fashion so I can’t wait to see where it takes me and what else I will learn along the way.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising about me that most people don’t know is that I love to draw sketches of possibly clothing ideas that come to my mind! I love creating outfits and possible clothing pieces (as sketches) just as much as I love styling them.
