Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Santiago.
Hi Nina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was an avid beach volleyball player for many years, but after undergoing four surgeries, I was forced to step away from the sport I loved. During my recovery, I was also planning my own wedding and started researching ways to create personalized décor and signage at home. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into a passion.
As I planned my wedding, I realized there weren’t many small businesses in San Diego that specialized in custom wedding signage and personalized event décor. Most rental companies focused on large inventory like tables, chairs, and linens, making it difficult to find unique, customized pieces without going through a complicated process.
That’s what inspired me to create Boho Tropic Rentals. I wanted to offer couples an easy, personalized experience where they could bring their vision to life without the hassle. Whether it’s a custom welcome sign, seating chart, or other personalized details, my goal is to make the process simple, enjoyable, and completely tailored to each event.
I currently work full-time as a respiratory therapist, but Boho Tropic Rentals has become my creative outlet and a passion I never expected to find. While I’ll always love beach volleyball, this business has given me a new way to channel my creativity and bring joy to others by helping make one of the most important days of their lives truly unforgettable.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business from the ground up meant stepping into something completely unknown. I had to teach myself along the way, spending countless hours researching, gathering information, learning through trial and error, and figuring out what I wanted my business to represent. One of the biggest challenges was creating an identity and brand that felt authentic to me while also connecting with my clients.
Building Boho Tropic Rentals has required an incredible amount of time, patience, and dedication. There were many lessons along the way, but each challenge helped shape the business into what it is today. Looking back, I’m extremely grateful for how far I’ve come, but even more grateful for the relationships I’ve built with my clients and the opportunity to be a small part of so many meaningful celebrations.

At Boho Tropic Rentals, we create personalized wedding and event details that turn a celebration into something truly unique to you. While we primarily specialize in weddings, we love creating custom pieces for all of life’s special occasions.
From personalized welcome signs and seating charts to bar menus, place cards, favors, thank-you gifts, and one-of-a-kind custom requests, we focus on the little details that bring an entire event together.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned throughout this journey is to always choose love first. Despite the challenges and hardships life may bring, I’ve realized that at the end of the day, love is what truly matters.
Being surrounded by so many happy couples and watching them reach such a meaningful milestone in their lives is a constant reminder to choose love in my own relationships as well.
Building Boho Tropic Rentals has also taught me to be patient and kind to myself. Creating something from the ground up takes dedication, hard work, and perseverance, but I’ve learned that those efforts can lead to incredibly rewarding experiences.
Most importantly, I’ve learned that the journey never really ends. One chapter simply creates the beginning of another, and I’m excited to continue growing, learning, and seeing where this journey takes me next
