Rising Stars: Meet Patrick Ise of Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Ise

Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first got into DJing when I was actually in Kappa Sigma at Cal State San Marcos. I always listened to rap and R&B when I was growing up, but I was always into all forms of music to be honest and I was always open to anything that I felt made me feel cool listening to or took me out of my body for a second. On that thread I was able to open my ears to the different genres of EDM, whether that was house music, dubstep, UK Garage, and plenty more. I first felt the energy of this music in 2019 at a festival in San Bernardino called Hard Summer, and that was the first time I really understood that these sounds I was hearing wasn’t just sounds but it was pure energy that moved crowds like I’ve never seen, and honestly from that point on I found EDM therapeutic to my day to day life.

I grabbed my first decks when I was locked in my fraternity house during COVID, and I had all the time in the world to explore all types of music and watch different sets of newfound artists that I started to really enjoy and look up to. Watching these artists conduct crowds with select songs and mixes on a consistent basis made me appreciate the craft more and more with each day, and to be honest theres nothing that makes me happier than going out with my friends and being at these shows in person. With all of this being said, every day I worked on my craft and emotional intelligence so that I would be able to read energy on the dance floor and navigate peoples ears and why they enjoy certain sounds, or if they wanted to just listen to the safe songs that everyone else knows. My first gig outside of the bedroom was at a bar called Shelter in Encinitas on a random Thursday. From that point on I felt the love from my friends and others that I seriously appreciate to this day, and thats what I genuinely feel got me to break the beginner stage of trying to land gigs, cause seriously getting gigs in the beginning is very hard. Once I was able to do a back to back set with my DJ friend Jerry who goes by Ü at Shipwreck Festival in Downtown San Diego, things have sort of taken off from there. I am very appreciative of all the opportunities that I am able to get today thanks to the people around me, even though I feel that I am still at the very beginning of my DJ/producing journey. Hopefully one day through all of this I will be able to say that I made it and I can take all those people that have been with me from day 1 with me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There are always struggles along the way, and I am definitely still on the struggle bus hahaha. But through all these struggles and mistakes and missed opportunities I always have to look at these things as motivation to do better and push myself in the direction that I want to go in. If I don’t do it for myself no one will do it for me, and that is still something that I have to tell myself every single day so I can stay consistent with my goals and my passion.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in DJing/producing house music and other types of EDM genres including Techno, UK Garage, Drum and Bass, and Dubstep. I am most proud of my shows with Shipwreck Festival, as those are my first ever bookings for a decent sized festival! What sets me apart I would say is my ability to look at things in a positive way, no matter how upset I might feel about something not going my way or people around me not treating me the way I feel I should be treated, I have an ability to look past it and find a better solution than act on emotion in that moment. I always end up finding myself in a better position in than I would’ve if I was to act out in that moment.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If you are reading this I appreciate you, and hopefully one day well make it out of San Diego hahaha but much love to you for taking the time to listen to me talk about myself for a second.
