Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Giannelli.
Hi Paul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Originally, I’m from New York City where I attended St. John’s University and graduated with a degree in Sport Management & Business. I have over 12 years of Sports industry experience, mostly in Youth/Recreational Sport Operations & Coaching. In search of a better life, I relocated to Southern California about 5 years ago where I was working in Sales until the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Shortly after, I was laid off. For the first time in my life, I found myself unemployed and unsure of what to do next. Staying optimistic, I had this belief that I would somehow turn this negative into a positive. With schools and youth sports programs shutting down, I began to notice a dire need for safe, physical activity for the youth in our community. With this in mind and having always wanted to start my own business, North County Sports Academy was born. I launched the company on January 1st, 2021 by providing affordable and high-quality outdoor Private Lessons in basketball, soccer, baseball, & softball. About 3 months after, we hosted our very first small group Clinic, and about 3 months after that, we hosted our very first Summer Camp. Two years later, we have had the privilege of being able to have worked with over 1,000 kids either in a Private Lesson, Clinic, &/or Camp setting. This year, we plan on adding lacrosse & football programs, hosting multiple Camps, as well as finding a local facility to host consistent Clinics.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Where do I begin? I look at each obstacle or challenge as an opportunity to learn something new and grow as a person. Having never started my own business before, I needed to learn how to build it from the ground up. This included having to design a logo, build a website, create social media accounts, obtain a business phone number, open business bank accounts, become an LLC, acquire small business insurance, & hire high-quality coaches. Now that the foundation has been established, there is always room for improvement and growth. This year we plan on adding a fully functional e-commerce platform to the website, launching a year-round marketing campaign, and becoming a non-profit.
