Rising Stars: Meet Princeton of La Jolla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Princeton

Hi Princeton, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey, I’m Princeton, a musical artist and overall creative. I started taking music seriously around 17 years old. Everything felt natural about the process; a decade later, I’m still navigating my way through the music realm, hoping to inspire and motivate others through my journey. Countless shows, hours of writing and recording music all have led to me becoming my own person, and all the experiences I’ve encountered have helped me grow as an artist. I’m most proud that I’ve committed to this endeavor for over an entire decade, yes, an entire decade of making music. Nonstop waking up and thinking what are the necessary moves I need to make to not only advance my career but grow as an individual. I have performed on a Mexican talent show Tengo Talento Mucho Talento, opened for big artists in my area, opened on the MTV show MTV Fresh Out, plus many more appearances/accomplishments. Today I’m a performing artist both locally, nationally & internationally, having recently performed in Toronto, Canada for the Ryan Meetup.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not entirely, quite a good bit of unknown I’ve had to learn to navigate. Here’s one example of one of my struggles: when I was 17 years old and first started making music, I received a phone call from a record label. They told me they heard a couple of my songs and that they wanted to hear more from me. As excited as I was thinking I had gotten my first big break (at 6 months in) as the conversation lengthened, I began to hear laughter in the background, I came to realize it was kids from my high school on the other line. As much as I wanted to sulk and give up, I came to the realization that these types of moments are going to deter you from taking a leap of faith and giving up on your dreams. If I had not kept forward, I would not be in the position that I am in now. My journey would not have taken the path that it was destined to be on. Smooth road with a few bumps and a toll here and there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a pop-rap artist and songwriter who blends infectious melodies with vivid storytelling, creating music that resonates across genres. I specialize in crafting high-energy, relatable tracks that balance rap, pop, and hip-hop influences, making my sound both dynamic and accessible. People know me for my engaging performances, my ability to connect with audiences, and my dedication to pushing creative boundaries—whether through music, marketing, or community-building.

What I’m most proud of is sticking with music for over 10 years and still having the same passion for it. Through every stage of my journey, from opening for artists like Riff Raff to performing on MTV’s Fresh Out and Tengo Talento Mucho Talento, my love for making music and sharing it with others has never faded.

What sets me apart is my ability to make music that people can truly see themselves in. I write about real emotions and experiences—heartbreak, ambition, self-doubt, and perseverance—the same things everyone goes through. My music isn’t just about me; it’s about connecting with people and giving them something they can feel, something that reminds them they’re not alone in what they’re going through.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been fortunate to have some incredible people support me throughout my journey. One of the first was my friend Stephen Niday, who was my first producer and played a huge role in shaping my sound early on. He produced most of my first singles, helping me develop as an artist and find my voice.

Lorenzo Walton, a close friend from college, has been a major influence as well. He’s always been a constructive critic, pushing me to refine my music while also giving me ideas aesthetically and creatively. Whether it’s feedback on a track or a new approach to my visuals, his input has helped elevate my artistry.

Kempson Bellington, another friend I met in college, has also played a big role—especially when it comes to visuals. As a talented videographer, he helped bring some of my early music videos to life, capturing the energy and vision I wanted to put out into the world.

Beyond them, I have to give credit to my family, close friends, and everyone who has supported me throughout the years. Whether it’s showing up to my performances, sharing my music, or simply believing in me when I needed it most, their encouragement has meant everything. The people closest to me have been my biggest cheerleaders, and their support has kept me going through the highs and lows of this journey.
