Rising Stars: Meet Rasan of Chula Vista

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rasan.

Hi Rasan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started playing the keyboard around 6 or 7 years old. I used my father’s Casio. I come from a musical family. My mother sang in church, my father sang and played the guitar, my sister sings as well. Fast forward to when I turned 14, my father had a DR-5 and 4 track recorder. He taught the basics and I ran with it. I started making beats with the Dr-5 and a Casio keyboard my pops got my Christmas. My sister thought my beats sucked at the time. Continued to work on my craft. Linked up with DJ G-Spot and his brother Joe aka Mastermind. Joe had a Roland MC 505 and we started cranking out beats on that. The following year I met Bossman Hogg and shot him a beat tape that Joe and i worked on. Two weeks later he took us to the studio where I met Big June, Coop D’vill, Beta Bossalini and Macnificent of Sidewayz Entertainment. Bossman Hogg gave Joe and I the name “The Jetsons.” Typically we produced on our own, but at times we can collaborate on a few tracks. From there I produced a lot of tracks for a lot of San Diego artists such as Young Sau, Reggie Push, Gangsta Gold Macnificent, Lil CS, Sonny Bo, Pure Flow & dBd Muzik, and many others. . Formed a crew with DJ G-Spot called EMF and dropped some albums and mixtapes. Life started lifeing and I took a sabbatical, but came back and still make beats.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The golden age of San Diego rap was 2002 – 2006. Those were some fun times. Now the game is saturated and too accessible, and has no identity. Regions had a certain sound, now everyone sounds the same, so it is a struggle to adapt at times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My musical influences include Roger Troutman, Battlecat, Michael Jackson, . I’m known for futuristic sounds. I like using synth pads. I like my music to have soul, make you feel something.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Off topic, but favorite book is Behold a Pale Horse. But as far as what I do, Youtube is my best friend. If I get stuck on something, I just Youtube it! It took my a few years to perfect my workflow.
