Rising Stars: Meet Ryan Gold of Carlsbad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Gold.

Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are four coaches with a passion for youth sports and our community. All four of us have our own children and have coached them in a variety of different sports. Two of us, John and Ryan teach and coach football and girls flag football at La Costa Canyon High School. The other two, Gio and Tony are local business owners and joined the La Costa Canyon coaching staff for girls flag football for the 2024 season. With the tremendous buzz and excitement around the game of girls flag football we wanted to create a fun, competitive platform for girls to continue to have an opportunity to play this amazing game that is growing like crazy right now. The quality of play of the girls is really incredible and this will only continue to get bigger and strong as new teams and clubs get added.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main challenge is trying to manage our athletes very busy schedules. The majority of our players are multi-sport athletes so it can be difficult for them to find time to attend training sessions and there are often conflicts with tournament dates. However, because so many girls are excited about playing flag football they are finding a way to make it work. The girls also do a great job of managing their time and will even attend a portion of practice by arrive a little late or leaving a little early.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Coastal Crush girls flag football club is made up of four local coaches with a tremendous passion coaching! We were the first to coach the girls flag football program at La Costa Canyon High School and we saw the demand and desire for more playing opportunities. The four of us all bring a great depth of football and training knowledge to the club. Additionally, all four of us have experience coaching our own daughters in a variety of sports in additional to all the other coaching experience that we have. 3 of our own daughters are currently playing sports in college as well. We are most proud of the community that we are able to create within our team and club as well as our quality training sessions that push and challenge the girls to learn the game of flag football.
