Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Rayos.
Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a 24 year old videographer and multimedia-journalist college student. I earned my associate degree in media communications with an emphasis in video production in 2023. I just recently earned my associate degree in journalism for transfer and will be transferring to San Diego State University this upcoming fall semester, where I will be majoring in journalism & media studies. I have already earned myself the position of social media manager as a board member of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA). I am a film/production intern for a Filipino-owned non profit organization called “Bridge The Gap SD.” I started my own freelance videography business in 2024 under the business name “Zuzuroki Films.” I have been producing and releasing music on major streaming platforms under the stage name “Zuzuroki,” which is where my business name originates from. Interestingly enough, the name is a combination of my three favorite anime characters’ names. I found my passion in videography when I first created my YouTube channel in 2016 as a sophomore in high school, learning how to record and edit videos. I would record “reaction videos” which is a type of content in which I would film myself reacting to something including music video releases, major news headlines, and even TikTok compilations. Ever since then, my passion for editing videos has blossomed and continued to grow as I learn more and more about videography through different opportunities. I ended up purchasing my own DSLR camera, while adding thousands of dollars worth of additional equipment to go along with it. I have filmed work events, graduation ceremonies, and even fitness instructor classes. Everyday I am learning more about the functions on my camera, tips on how to improve video quality, and an increased knowledge and understanding of how to improve my video editing skills. I look forward to capturing my clients’ unforgettable moments in life while providing exceptional and professional services to our beloved community of San Diego. I look forward to learning more about becoming a multimedia journalist, while showcasing my skills as a video producer in the process.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many creatives trying to break into videography and media, I’ve had to learn a lot through trial and error. I started building my skills on my own, without formal mentorship or expensive equipment, which meant I had to be resourceful and self-motivated. Balancing multiple internships, schoolwork, and managing my freelance business “Zuzuroki Films” has been challenging, especially when deadlines overlap or projects demand quick turnarounds.
Another challenge has been gaining credibility and experience in a competitive field as a student. That’s why I took on various internships and volunteer roles—like working with Tree San Diego, The Sun newspaper, and Bridge The Gap—to grow my portfolio and learn how to collaborate with different types of organizations. There were moments of self-doubt, especially when juggling responsibilities and learning new editing tools on the fly, but those experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of clear communication. Every setback pushed me to grow not just as a videographer, but as a professional.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a videographer, storyteller, and journalism student who’s passionate about capturing moments that matter—whether it’s through cinematic event coverage, social media content, or documentary-style storytelling. I run a freelance business called Zuzuroki Films, where I create personalized content for clients, ranging from promotional videos to community event recaps. I also work as a film/production intern and social media manager, blending visual storytelling with digital strategy.
I specialize in creating videos that connect emotionally—whether it’s through editing rhythm, camera work, or simply knowing how to tell someone’s story in a way that feels authentic. I’m especially known for being resourceful, creative, and highly collaborative. Whether I’m shooting on-site with an environmental nonprofit or curating content for a student journalism chapter, I aim to make every piece both visually engaging and meaningful.
What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come by building everything from the ground up. I didn’t have a lot of gear or connections when I started—I just had a passion for visual storytelling and a drive to improve. One of my proudest achievements was starting my own business based on a skill that I am not only plentiful in, but one that I am very passionate about.
What sets me apart is my blend of technical skill and heart. I care deeply about the people I work with and the stories I tell. I’m not just about making something look good—I want it to feel real. That mindset, along with my adaptability and strong communication skills, allows me to thrive in both solo and team settings.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is spending time with my family, friends, and girlfriend. Creating and cherishing memorable experiences with them will always be the highlight of my life. My aspiration in life is to be happy and to strive for happiness every single day!
