Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Davis.
Hi Sara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an illustrator for as long as I can remember. Growing up in the LA area, I drew plenty of inspiration from the Southern California sunshine and its rich art and music scene. I remember taking lots of little trips out to LACMA with my dad (it’s always free if you’re under 18!). There were too many exhibitions and artists to remember, but one I did remember well was Diane Von Furstenburg’s exhibit – it was so amazingly immersive, colorful, playful, and retro. Other things I believe nurtured my creative spirit was the retro surf culture that surrounded Los Angeles, taking day trips to Disneyland, and following local and smaller artists to see them play at house parties, the Santa Monica Pier, and wherever else.
I moved away from my creative side and decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology up in Santa Barbara after high school under the notion that I wouldn’t be able to ‘make it’ as an artist. Flash forward, I finished my degree and moved to Maui immediately after. I’ve been getting back in touch with my creative side and decided that I want to go all in and pursue my dreams because life’s too short!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were some struggles, mainly between me and my family. They wanted me to pursue a Science-based degree in college and pushed for me to see it through. I did finish my degree, but I definitely realized long before I finished my B.S. that I wanted to change gears to pursue art.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create colorful, tropical, and retro-looking digital art! I specialize in illustration but am always happy to take on clients for branding work. I think I am known best for my illustrations and am most proud of those. I think what sets me apart from others is that I really love creating art that myself and people will love. I love to make custom work and bring someone’s vision to life.
