Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharion Fuller.
Hi Sharion, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been doing hair, pretty much most of my life. Being the second oldest in my family. I felt more encouraged when I was offered a job at a Braiding salon when the owner saw my hair.
After my 1st paying client (we’ll call him RM). I knew then I could do this full time. I made a decision to become a cosmetologist/ braider when I was a state board model for a friend of mine. she asked me “Do you think you can do this?” And I said yes. That was in 2005 I left being executive for Macy’s department stores and pursue my career in Hair! It was the best decision I’ve ever made. I never looked back. It allowed me to more control over my life.
Never in a million years I would have thought I would be a small business owner! This is one of my greatest adventures. And it’s not over yet!
Sky is a limit!!!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The hardest thing I had to do was to send my son to live with his father in Texas and finish cosmetology school. This is why I work so hard to move forward with my business and keep it alive.
The road is very rocky and the beginning learning the hot and cold seasons. The main struggle was through covid. It took a lot from me. But I’m not shy to struggle. In just time! we will get back.
Self-motivated!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed professional braider. when I started, women of color were being taken advantage of. My goal was to be able to take care of all their hair care needs. And to be able to leave the salon with money in their pocket as well. Lol! While not losing their hair to braids, medication, life. And no one to teach them how to care for their braids. This is why I went to learn more about how to care for hair in depth . Now I can teach them about their hair and how to care for their hair in their braids. The one thing that I cherish about myself the most is that my clients have been with me since the beginning. As far as being set apart from anyone else.
I just love what I do.!
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Positively speaking the industry has the a whole will continue to grow. Like I said earlier the sky is the limit!
