Rising Stars: Meet Siarhei of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siarhei.

Hi Siarhei, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Pinsk, Belarus, into a family of musicians, my mother a piano teacher and my father a professional trumpete, so music was part of daily life. I trained as a pianist, but I was drawn to how sound could be shaped and transformed, which led me into computer-based production, early collaborations, and long hours in studios. A key turning point was winning first place in the global Tank Factor competition, which allowed me to meet one of my early inspirations, Akira Yamaoka. After moving to the United States, I continued producing and engineering, working on projects with artists like The Basics and Gotye, while refining a hybrid digital-analog approach. Today I split my time between producing, mixing, mastering.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Coming from Belarus, I faced the challenge of starting over in a new country and navigating a completely different music industry landscape in the United States. At times, there were financial pressures, language barriers, and the uncertainty of whether I would be able to establish myself. Even technically, building a career meant learning how to balance creativity with the demands of engineering, deadlines, and the business side of music.

But those struggles pushed me to grow. Every obstacle, whether it was having to rebuild my network from scratch, or spending long nights figuring out the right sound, taught me resilience. Looking back, those moments were as important as the successes, because they shaped the way I approach both music and life today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work sits at the intersection of creativity and engineering, with a strong emphasis on community and standards through my role as a Voting Member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). I produce, mix, and master across electronic and contemporary styles.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a very musical environment, so curiosity and creativity were part of my personality from the start. I was the kid who would sit at the piano for hours but also take things apart to see how they worked – whether it was a tape recorder or a computer. That mix of artistic and technical curiosity shaped me early on.

Personality-wise, I was very focused but also open-minded. I loved listening to everything from classical to folk to the early electronic records. Looking back, those early habits – discipline from formal training, but also a willingness to explore are exactly what I draw on now in the studio.
