Rising Stars: Meet Siddhi Tavildar of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siddhi Tavildar.

Hi Siddhi, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

Hello, I am Siddhi. I work as an algorithm developer/researcher in a medical device company in San Diego. I have a masters degree in engineering and a PhD in computational science from San Diego State university. My doctoral research involved developing a multi-dimensional signal processing algorithm to infer and analyze the cortical connectivities in Macaque monkeys using the unstructured data recorded from the motor cortex.

In my personal life, I am a mother by day and an avid reader, blogger, a classical dancer and a perpetual learner by later that day!

I was born and raised in a small town in India. Growing up, my parents always enabled and encouraged me to make my own decisions, while reassuring that they would always stand by me and support the outcomes of those decisions. Looking back, I truly appreciate that. So much of who I am and all that I strive to become traces back to the unwavering “can-do” spirit my parents nurtured in me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

Just like everyone, I too have had my fair share of challenges and obstacles in life.
From personal losses, injuries to professional set-backs. I dealt with them with the combination of action and acceptance. I have come to realize that not everything can be overcome by changing the course of actions. Sometimes, there is greater strength and peace in accepting the situation and moving forward. Having said that, I also feel that those challenges have been crucial in teaching me gratitude, empathy and shaping my mindset.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?

While my work as algorithm developer is quite interesting, the details are confidential and cannot be shared publicly due to company policies. Let me share about my publicly shareable work, that is my blog.

I’m an expressive person who often turns to writing as an outlet. About a decade ago, when life felt especially tough, I found comfort in writing my blog. It became both a means of self expression and a way to preserve the fragments of my everyday life. As my life and experiences grew, so did the content of my blog. I’ve always had a tendency to compartmentalize things and my blog reflects that. It’s a colorful mix of everything I love: DIY adventures, honest motherhood moments, messy gardening wins (and fails!), bookish ramblings, and a collection of recipes straight from a contemporary Indian kitchen built for busy, working families like mine.

I would say I am a regularly irregular blogger. These days, the only section I consistently update is “Books I Read.” It’s less about formal reviews and more about capturing my personal reading journey

For me, the blog serves another quiet but meaningful purpose. It helps me stay connected to my roots and culture. Language, in particular, holds a special place in that connection. My blog provides me with a timeless and easily accessible medium for expressing in my mother tongue.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.

To me, taking risks means stepping outside of your comfort zone. That’s where true growth, learning and even happiness begin. Pursuing higher education in a country 9,000 miles away from home, committing to a doctoral program, and embracing motherhood – each of these decisions required a certain level of risk-taking and leap of faith.  Like I mentioned above, they’ve brought their share of challenges, but through it all, the journey has been deeply rewarding and meaningful.
To give a recent example, after completing my doctoral studies, I decided to start learning the Indian classical dance – Bharatnatyam. It has not been easy, especially considering that I started learning at much later age than when most dancers do. It is a pretty intense art form and requires persistent efforts. However, it has been a great experience. It involves putting myself out of my comfort zone, taking chances, making mistakes and continually working to improve those mistakes. For me, the gratification lies in this process. Learning dance provides me with those much needed, frequent bursts of happiness. For those reasons, I’d say it’s a risk worth taking.
