Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Barnum
Hi Stacy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Stacy and I’m a Filipino-American living in sunny San Diego!
Ever since I can remember, I have always had a love for vintage, specifically 1940s through 1960s glam. As all vintage lovers, I grew up watching old movies and always gravitated to older music before my time. From memorizing the lyrics to Crazy by Patsy Cline just at 6 years old to attending to my first vintage car show at 9 years old. I think whether I knew it or not, I’ve always been surrounded by the fashion and era that I feel inspired by most.
Fast forward to now, I found my little corner online where I share my daily modern twists of vintage inspired outfits, 1940s/1950s brush outs, and makeup looks! Dressing up and getting glam every day is more than just throwing something on. To me, it’s like getting in my superhero outfit. As silly as it may sound to some, there’s nothing that gives me more confidence than being dressed up in something fun and more importantly what feels like me. Especially now, fashion trends change every week and I’m just glad to have kept a personal style all throughout my life where I’m still getting to wear clothes and accessories I’ve thrifted as far back as high school and still finding new ways to style them!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There will always be someone who wants to rain on your parade.
Everyone has been bullied by someone and I am no exception to that. I was made fun of in elementary school and middle school about the way I look, my horrible acne issues, the clothes I’d wear and thankfully it never bothered me too much. I mean, the acne did because I was a teenage girl! Regardless, I was still me and never treated people or myself differently because of other people’s opinions.
I think when people see someone who’s confident in who they are and is minding their business doing their own thing, it’s gonna make people mad and that has everything to do with their own insecurities. If anything, it’s given me even more confidence as an adult that people will always have something to say and it has nothing to do with me and everything to do with them. Do what you want, wear what you want!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work for a small business called Pigment in San Diego! I help out with content creation and merchandising. It’s awesome getting to work for a small company where you get to work with other creatives and with a team that feels like your second family!
My spare time goes into curating looks and collecting vintage pieces to share with people online who have similar likes. Although I don’t fully consider this my “second job” because it’s something i genuinely enjoy, it still pays for a meal or a bill here and there so I’m very lucky!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
When I was little I felt like I was constantly surrounded by bad luck and that had everything to do with my personal life and family hardships.
Although I still deal with your fair share of “bad luck,” I consider myself really lucky actually. I’m married to the love of my life with our little dog, I get to live in an awesome city, I’m surrounded by the greatest and most loving friends, and I get to work with the best people! Every now and then I post my silly little outfits online and share my love for vintage which either introduces new people to my life or new opportunities! I say that’s pretty lucky.
