Rising Stars: Meet Sug Bandit of Inland empire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sug Bandit.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
5 years ago and year after is when i started modeling, acting, singing, danza, and my community work as a humans rights activist. It started with my long drive to orange county ,los angeles, and san diego every weekend. I became a model for lowrider car shows , music videos ,and local upcoming clothing brands. Ive been in a few movies and short films . I became an aztec dancer (danzante) 2 years ago. I started going further with my singing/rapping/music at blu side studios in 2023. I started advocating for different communities back in 2020 from vigils for people who have lost their children due to police brutality , street vendors who were wrongfully harmed , ceremonies for our people in ice detention centers. I have been apart of many indigenous ceremonies and gatherings. I have my own clothing brand . I play basketball, soccer and recently just started boxing. I am a coach at an afterschool program . I am originally from national city san diego i live in inland empire now i am a daughter of immigrants from the Philippines. I am a community public speaker and help host alot of community events . I love poetry, music, lowriders and my community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasnt always been a smooth road. From these long drives, sleeping at different houses and hotels, going back and forth with jobs, not having enough to budget , alot of traumas in our community. Being able to trust the right people. Stepping out my comfort zone and most importantly being able to distinguish whats right for me on my path and journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am currently an after school program coach. I model, sing,do danza (aztec dancing) play basketball, soccer and recently just started boxing. I have my own clothing brand, do poetry, i am public speaker at community events, and advocate for our communities. I am mostly known for my name they call me Sugar /Sug Bandit for my community work, being out spoken,my blue hair and style, and being a model part of the lowrider community. I am most proud of every project i have been apart of and did almost everything i said i was going to go out and do in this world as a kid. What sets me apart from others is my ambition and resilience i didn’t have any help and did everything on my own. I did not know a single person and i had to put myself out there like that. I am proud to represent for my filipinos, the lowrider community, the indigenous community , chicano community and representing how a true woman and entrepreneur should hold it down and carry herself.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Living in national city paradise hills always hanging out with my friends/homies and always dancing and singing to high school musical at my apartments .
