Rising Stars: Meet Tara Tarrant

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Tara Tarrant.

Tara Tarrant

Hi Tara, we’re so excited to have you on the platform. Before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I learned how to engrave from a friend’s mom when I was eighteen years old. Years later, I acquired my own sandblast cabinet and started making engravings for my friends and family. Many years later, the demand grew and I decided to turn my hobby into a business.

Over the years, the demand grew, so I decided I needed to figure out how to take my business mobile. I acquired the on-site equipment, which opened up many more job opportunities. I’ve been in business for over twenty years now.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The design part has always been pretty fun and smooth. The only struggles would be in the learning curve department. It’s taken many years to learn and make mistakes, to learn the way different materials etch and react with paint and weathering.

Experience is an asset in this line of work. We work on materials that require that they are engraved properly the first time, as messing up is not an option.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
I am a professional sandblast engraver located in San Diego, CA. I specialize in name engraving on donor walls, Veteran walls, and fundraising ventures for churches, schools, and foundations.

We also make a lot of address signage, on-site boulder engraving, last name closing gifts for real estate agents, logos for businesses, and anything else you could ever want to be personalized in stone.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My friend’s mom, TLC, has been the catalyst for how I’ve found my legacy and passion in this creative field.
