Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinni Luong-Schreier.
Hi Trinni, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We have a family of animal lovers but my brother, Bee Man Dan, had a particular fondness for insects. His childhood curiosity turned into a passion as an adult and eventually, turned into a life goal of saving the bees through live removal rescues and education on the vital importance of bees to our continued survival. As the business grew, the removals needed more TLC in “Bee-Hab” where the rescues are relocated and rehabilitated before they are adopted out to their new loving homes where they can continue to thrive. Enter Trinni, the Pink Beekeeper. I’ve always loved it when a little bee decided to land on my lap to hang out with me while I was sitting out in nature. Now, I get to make sure that all of our rescues have the best chance to survive after being removed from their first chosen home.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were a few bumps in the road on the way. Understanding “bee”-havior takes more than just reading about it or watching videos on bee stewardship. It takes hands-on experience to truly be one with these amazing creatures. Educating the public has also been a struggle because there are already so many preconceived notions about bees that cause panic. There is also the use of chemical pesticides and herbicides that cause harm to pollinators of all types. Luckily, more and more people are choosing rescue over extermination and safer alternatives to pesticides are more readily available. There is still much knowledge to disseminate but we’ll push on, one rescue at a time.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the Apiary Manager for We Save Bees. I specialize in the rehabilitation of our rescue colonies. Our bee rescue team, The Wranglers, do everything they can to help the bees make a smooth transition from the rescue and relocation. But there are always factors involved and things to consider along the way. My job is to mitigate any additional stressors while they are in my care at “Bee-Hab” (Bee rehabilitation) to help the colonies rebuild their home and continue to thrive in a nurturing environment. Only when they are strong enough as a colony and their temperament thoroughly vetted will we be comfortable enough adopting them out to farms and backyard beekeepers in Southern California. What sets us apart is that all of our rescue colonies are saved and doted upon, often at our personal expense, because we care that much about their survival. All of our hives are 100% rescue colonies that are relocated BY HAND without the use of chemicals or vacuums.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We are a humble small business who’s only ask is that people take the time to understand bees and to help spread the word that bees can ALWAYS be rescued by hand without the use of toxic chemicals or harmful vacuums. We’d love your support on our YouTube channel (We Save Bees) where we share all of kinds of information about different types of rescues and ways you help your local neighborhood bees to survive and thrive.
