Rising Stars: Meet Vannara Provo of Downtown San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vannara Provo.

Hi Vannara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After bartending for 14 years I knew I needed a change. I knew that I wanted something that was mine and most importantly to be my own boss. That something I just wasn’t sure of at the time. I knew that I wanted to pick up a trade and the beauty industry just made sense. One of my best friend mentioned that she just completed a manicurist program and it kind of just clicked. I loved getting my nails done so maybe I’ll love doing them.

I started looking into different beauty schools and programs. I decided to enroll into the manicurist program at San Diego City College. I completed the program, pass my state board test and opened up Noir Haus Nails in 2021.

We just had our 4 year anniversary in July and I couldn’t be prouder of my little salon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s has definitely not been a smooth road. Undoubtedly with every business comes its own challenges.
When we first opened I thought I had to offer every single nail service out there. As time went on I realized that I wanted to offer a more specific service and honed it to perfection and we did just that.

Now we specialize in natural nails and using only the best gel based products. There’s a learning curve to everything and the best way to learn is from making mistakes.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I take nail care and nail health very seriously. That’s why I’ve researched to find the best quality products. We take our time with our nail appointments and it’s never rushed. We are about quality not quantity.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very independent kid. I liked doing things on my own. I grew up in the 80’s/90’s so I was always outside. I loved playing sports and the beach was my favorite place. I was also obsessed with fashion. I loved all the pretty dresses and shoes. I had a notebook that I use to draw in all of my dress design. I definitely wanted to be a fashion designer as a child.
