Rising Stars: Meet Whatevr Band of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whatevr Band

Hi Whatevr, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Whatevr formed in 2022 in Ocean Beach, San Diego, when Alex, Logan and Jimmy came together at a bar called Sunshine with a shared passion for blending the raw energy of punk rock with the lighter vibes of indie music. Inspired by bands like Fidlar, Skegss, Dune Rats, Pixies and Fontaines D.C, we started playing small local venues and quickly developed a reputation for high-energy shows and catchy songs.
In 2024 with new members Blake and Ramon we released our debut EP/album, “MILK,” started gaining traction in the southern Californian scene. Our sound—characterized by distorted guitars and vocals with lyrics dealing with romance and depression, resonates with fans and critics alike, leading to a couple gigs like the Soda Bar, The Casbah, and the Holding Company.
With a loyal fan base and a reputation for wild live performances, the band is gearing up for a new set of shows and the recording of a new album in the upcoming months.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While our journey as a band has been incredibly rewarding, it has never been smooth. We’ve faced challenges like lineup changes, creative differences, mental health issues and balancing our music with personal commitments. There were times when gigs didn’t go as planned, venues wouldn’t pay us, equipment doesn’t work or when we struggled to connect with our audience. Each of these obstacles taught us valuable lessons about teamwork, the importance of practice and perseverance, and they ultimately helped us grow stronger as a band. We’ve learned to embrace the ups and downs, knowing they’re all part of our story.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We’re really excited about our new EP, MILK! It captures that quintessential California vibe with a blend of Indie rock and Punk. The sound is bright and energetic, filled with catchy melodies and driving rhythms that reflect the carefree spirit of living in a city with a beach. Lyrically, we dive into themes of nostalgia and freedom, drawing inspiration from our experiences along the coast. We want listeners to feel that sense of joy and adventure when they hear it, whether they’re cruising with the windows down or hanging out by the ocean. You can find MILK on Spotify and all major music platforms, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear it!
