We’re looking forward to introducing you to Robin Litrenta. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Robin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
There’s an old song Video Killed The Radio Star. It’s about a technology change in the 1960s, the desire to remember the past and the disappointment that the current generation would not appreciate the past. Today, one could write a new version called Mobile Phones Are Trying To Kill The Professional Photographer. It’s a bit jaded, but not really. With just about everyone walking around with a camera in their pocket, the allure of making a professionally composed fine art portrait has somewhat fallen by the wayside. It’s not as simple as pressing a button and applying a social media filter. Thankfully, there are many consumers who appreciate and value the skillset required to make a beautifully composed and artistically edited fine art portrait to adorn their walls.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a full-service lifestyle portrait photographer and my boutique business is quite different than most photographers. I do the heavy lifting from planning your session to scheduling time to help you select beautiful, printed artwork for display in your home. You have permission to let go of doing while I mind the details. I help bring your creative vision to life, help curate the perfect camera-ready wardrobe, and successfully motivate the occasional reluctant partner or kiddo. You’ll find my sessions relaxed, playful and customized to your family’s current season of life. When your session is completed you’ll have a new cherished memory of your time together with no to-do list.
I love nothing more than exploring San Diego’s natural beauty and creating magical portraits for my clients. My style is warm, and timeless with an emphasis on love, joy and connection. My fine art portraits are strongly influenced by Southern California’s golden light, beaches, fields and mountains. Many of my photos include grand environmental portraits of your family to establish a sense of place. Locations have meaning and memory. They tell a story and create a sense of belonging.
Love + Joy are an integral part of my creative voice. Whether I’m photographing a family, a newly engaged couple, an expectant mama, a newborn or even a high school senior, I see their Love + Joy and always weave these two emotions into their unique story.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A daydreamer. An artist. Someone who colored outside the lines. These days I find myself trying to harness that carefree spirit and have it drive my creativity.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I long for the days before social media. Or even before the computer age. When everyone spoke face to face or on the phone. I miss the thrill of finding a warmly handwritten letter in my mailbox rather than the junk mail which now fills it. The days when kids played outside until the street lights came on were pure magic. Playing sports in the street with the neighborhood kids, hopscotch, four square or a game of tag. There was such carefree, imaginative fun which brought lessons of problem solving and camaraderie without adult supervision. Sadly, I think much of this has been lost.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Family. Integrity. Honesty. Community over competition. Having a strong moral compass.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! I always lead with doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do, rather than doing something for the applause. This is a guiding principle not just in my business, but also in my personal life.
