We’re looking forward to introducing you to Ryan Green. Check out our conversation below.
Ryan, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me right now involves getting up, drinking my morning Matcha to start the day, followed by a Vinyasa yoga class. After that, I settle into work mode, diving into that weeks wedding edit. Being a healthy/ organized person helps me stay on track with deadlines and deliver quality films to my couples, which I truly love doing.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a lover of film. Both shooting, editing, and watching. Film has been my passion throughout my life. My art comes from capturing the feelings and emotions of a particular event through my camera. On my down time, I strive to spend as much time in nature as possible. Filming the outdoors is what started me on the path to filming professionally. I launched Ryan Green Films over ten years ago. Slowly but surely the demand has increased and has lead to where I am today. I am committed to learning new aspects of filming and editing which allows me to continue to expand my business and look to the future.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Who taught me the most about work? I’d say the good mentors and bosses I had in jobs before starting my own business. They showed me the value of hard work and that true excellence comes from passion and full commitment, especially when offering a service as a business. My lifelong love for capturing moments with a camera, sparked by those who recognized that passion, drove me to launch Ryan Green Films. I’ve never looked back, staying dedicated to telling authentic stories, a mindset shaped by those inspiring leaders and my own love for this career.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Once I launched Ryan Green Films, the idea of giving up was never on the table. Fortunately, the demand for my services and storytelling skills increased at a steady pace over the last decade, though I can’t deny there have been challenging months in the early years with slower business or instances where I fell short of my booking goals. Instead of letting these setbacks discourage me, they fueled my determination to critically assess my work and evolve to enhance my artistry. This drive to avoid complacency has pushed me to continually evolve my storytelling techniques. My aim is to go beyond merely satisfying clients, rather than just leaving couples impressed, I strive to captivate them, enabling them to relive their special day with a profound emotional resonance. That goal keeps me committed, and loving what I chose to do as a career in life.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One common misconception is the idea that a personal approach from start to finish is always guaranteed with every wedding videographer. I choose to film weddings solo, retaining full creative control over every step, from shooting to editing. This hands-on method ensures a consistent level of detail that can often be compromised when work is outsourced or a second shooter is involved, debunking the notion that all videographers offer this level of personal oversight.
Another myth is that a personal touch is easily maintained without direct involvement. I believe it’s crucial for capturing the unique essence of each couple’s story. By personally handling both filming and editing, I align my vision with the emotions and moments of the day, creating films that resonate deeply with couples and their families for years.
The industry also often suggests that quality can be maintained with high volume. I limit my bookings to 30 weddings annually, allowing me to be fully present during shoots to capture candid moments and dedicate time in the editing suite to perfect each film, tailored to each San Diego couple. This counters the lie that quantity doesn’t sacrifice quality.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t do anything differently. I am at a point where my business is growing steadily and I like the direction it’s heading in.
