Sonia Gupta shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Sonia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consist of waking up, trying to do yoga or meditation for 5-10 minutes, getting my kids ready for school, and having a cup of coffee.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is a Sonia, I am the creative behind the brand, Sip with Soni, my social media platform through which I blend modern mixology techniques with the bold flavors of my Indian roots to craft cocktails and mocktails. I am a self taught first generation Indian American mixologist. I draw inspiration for my cocktails and mocktails from my heritage, trying to infuse spices, aromatic herbs, and the visually stunning aspects of my culture. Currently, I am trying to make mixology accessible by hosting workshops and tastings, and I hope to create an elevated experience for clients and create interest in the world of mixology. I am also working on my own product, creating access to Indian flavors in the bar industry. I aim to inspire, educate, and celebrate culture in a glass, inviting everyone to experience the beauty of flavor through storytelling the mixology.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My dad is one of the most hardworking individuals I know. He immigrated to the United States at a young age to the complete unknown, not knowing a word of English, not having a community to rely on, and only motivated by ambition. He started out riding his bike to his first job, and through perseverance, he worked his way up to becoming an engineer. Along the way, he built a life for our family along with my mom, by checking all the boxes. My parents bought a home, learned the language, and embraced the American culture, showing me what it truly means to have good work ethic. Watching my dad create opportunities from nothing taught me that hard work isn’t just about getting ahead, it’s about resilience, adaptability, and believing in yourself in any circumstance.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell myself that it is okay to try and fail, as long as you try. The big picture can feel overwhelming, and giving up always feels like the easier path, but every little effort contributes to growth and a step forward toward your goal. Don’t be afraid to take risks, trust your instincts, and stay curious.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My close friends would say that what really matters to me is genuine connection. They know I value authenticity and know that I pour my heart into relationships. More than anything they would say I care about making people feel seen, welcomed, and celebrated.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace around the three most important people in my life, my kids and my husband. Family means the world to me, my kids are my reason, and my husband is my best friend and confidant. I would not be in the position I am today without my family.
