Story & Lesson Highlights with Anthony Hawkins Jr of San Diego

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Anthony Hawkins Jr. Check out our conversation below.

Anthony , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me consists of me getting up and going to work like all other adults. Once I’m off work depending on timing I will either digress with friends after work maybe talk sports, maybe talk about the hard day at work or sometimes we just crack jokes. If I’m not doing that I’m at home making new designs for my brand Daygo Vs Everybody for next year.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My Name is Anthony L. Hawkins Jr., I’m a San Diego native, clothing designer, & also a memorial graphic designer. I have been doing my brand Daygo Vs Everybody for 3 almost 4 yrs. My inspiration came from Ryan Anthony (Barely See The Beach), Dalesean Lynch (Walk Away No Drama Today), Big June (FootPrints), and the one that really got me started is owned by my guy Julio (PUSHN). I wanted to give my city and my daygo natives worldwide something they could wear anywhere and represent home. The name Daygo vs Everybody came from all the online hate the city receives, some of my peers telling me prison stories about how other places hate Daygo, for our sports teams when we go outta town, and because it’s DAYGO VS EVERYBODY plain and simple.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Creating memorials for people who have passed away. I mist now transition back into my brand and focus all on that. I did graphics for my city for 19yrs I started in 2007 with my father being the 1st one. I’ve had my work put in music video, on headstones, printed on shirts and put in obituaries and I truly feel it’s time to close out that chapter of my life.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t let the sadness of missing a parent take over your entire being to the point you forget who you are because then it’ll leave you trying to rebuild yourself and not know where to begin.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
For a very long time a person might of told you that keeping people’s memories alive was the only thing I cared about.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m creating a graphic or doing clothing because I can just play some music tune the world out and create until i get tired.
